Some old revolvers could have their designs possibly improved upon.

Some suggestions might be:

1. S&W Model 10, 4" bl., with aluminum grip / frame , barrel and cylinder SS.
2. Ruger Bearcat with aluminum grip / frame similar to original.
3. Ruger Bearcat all steel .22 Magnum 5 or 6 shot.
4. Ruger Bearcat all steel .17 Rim Fire Magnum 5 or 6 shot.
5. Ruger Bearcat All steel .327 Fed. Magnum 5 or 6 shot.

What do you think of these choices?

Please feel free to add your own choices and comments.:)

Done a long time ago with the Model 12. Not enough demand to keep it production. Stainless steel cylinder and barrel are just a variation in materials not a change in design. Whether use of stainless steel is a improvement is subjective.

I bet I could find a "pinto" model 12 if I asked enough S&W collectors.

Bearcat is too small and light anyhow, I sure don't want an aluminum frame again.

They made a few .22 Magnums but chickened out, exact reason subject to debate.

.17? Yawn.

.32? Probably pushing the design limits too hard for the company lawyers. I have a Single Six .38 and have seen pictures of a .41. Probably give them apoplexy.

Actually, none of those are really design changes, though some of the guns would have to be modified to meet the "needs" expressed.

Apparently you have this "thing" for the Ruger Bearcat. As a guy with large hands it's a gun which simply doesn't fit me. I can hold and shoot them fine but I can't "maneuver" the gun in my hand to take my finger out of the guard when desired within the limits of my hand's range of motion. So I have to use my other hand for support while I literally let go of the gun and move my finger out of the guard.

So MY additional option would be a Bearcat with an optional "adult" sized grip frame. Such a gun would be a lovely one for trail walks if I lived somewhere that allowed me to carry my own protection of this sort.

But as it sits now the Bearcat is the gun for women, young'uns and others with small size hands.

As for your updated Model 10 I would suggest that the S&W lineup is already loaded with lots of super light Scandium alloy framed revolvers. Pick one. There are enough options in that list that we simply don't need a new one. Or is it just that you want one with a longer barrel?

Ruger BearCat

Well, God did give me average to small sized hands. Also, when the original BearCat came out, I got one. Loved it !:D
Man, I'd really like to have that BC now!!! (Along with about a hundred + other guns I previously owned!):(

S&w model 12's are nice guns

GUNMASTER,

I have owned 3 S&W model 12 revolvers and I like them. The biggest worry is what a steady diet of .38 Special +P ammo would do to them. Skip the stainless steel, at least for me.

If they put the model 12 back in production with a +P rating (I think they did with a version of the NIGHTGUARD or NIGHTWATCH guns) AND A HEAVY 4 inch barrel, they would have something.

For me, the nicest things about the model 12 are the same K-frame grip size that fits my hand really well, especially with HOGUE grips (near perfection) and the feel of a well polished S&W trigger.

If this ever comes about, I would have the gun MAGNA PORTED to offset the light weight when using +P ammo.

Another NEW design might be to bring out a modern BREAK OPEN revolver like the old WEBLEY and SCOTT'S on a .38 Special +P version/.357 magnum size frame.
