Hear rumors the other day and saw it on the RUGER web page today about these 2 big bore models being added. Anyone had a chance to find one yet and if so what did you think of it. If they shoot like mine in 6.5 Creedmoor they will be a big hit on long-range targets.

Ho-hum. Very uncharacteristic and disappointing to go from novel, interesting chamberings like 6mm CM and 6.5mm CM to the tired old overhyped belted fail that is .300 Win Mag... Why not something good like 7mm WSM, which outperforms .300 WM by a mile with less recoil? Or even .28 nosler or .30 Nosler? Sigh

I mean the 338 is a great cartridge. But I can’t see paying $2000 for a factory Ruger. Remember the ballistics of the cartridge are superb out to a mile. But your rifles accuracy has to be up to the task. There’s a reason builds cost thousands of dollars to wring out quarter moa. That being said, I’m still curious to see the performance

True, but my experiences with the smaller RPR have proven that they are indeed very accurate. Not 1/4 MOA but easily 1/2 moa, which is good enough for me. That being said I am never the first one to buy anything. I let others test and review then weigh the options.

But where else can you get a .338 lapua of this quality for that price? The RPRs are high values; this one likely will be the same. I think they will sell a ton of them.

I built a 338 edge (I was torn between the Lapua and edge) for all purposes the rifles would have cost the same regardless of caliber.

With a Stiller tac338 Action, bartlein barrel, McMillan stock, heavy recoil lug, and bedded (by myself) it was something like $2600. And I’m pretty confident it’s higher quality than the Ruger.

Definitely costs more, but not by much relatively speaking. And resale value is better. That being said I’m sure Ruger is putting out a nice rifle

Stiller Tac 338 = $1145
Bartlein Barrel = $385
Thread and Chamber = $300
McMillan stock like A3 or A5 = $950+
Jewel Trigger = $200
Stiller Bottom metal = $295
Recoil lug = $100
Rail = $150+

Yup... it’s a better rifle than an RPR... Yup... you can almost buy both the 300wm and 338LM RPR for the price of a custom Stiller. Even with the Stiller being a very cheap 338 action, in the scheme of things...
