my friend just got one. i dislike that the laser switch is up towards the front of the receiver. seems like it would be tough to reach up and flip on the laser if you truly needed the weapon in a self-defense scenario.

You are not thinking about it the right way. It works really well if you use the middle finger on the trigger one-handed "point shooting" method -- your index finger then naturally sits right on the laser button switch, either right or left handed.
Forget about the thumb safety it's really small, stiff, and will practically take skin off your thumb. The slide hold open and release is a welcome feature missing from most of the competition.
Great price, I may get another just to practice with so I don't have to clean it after every outing before putting it back in the carry rotation.
I checked one out when they first hit the market, Never shot one tho.
Anyone who has shot one how do you rate the recoil? I would guess it would be a bit better than the LCP/P3AT, But worse than the Sig P238?
I actually liked the gun except i felt the laser felt "Gimmicky" and added bulk to an otherwise nicely sized .380
Id like to see a plain version for $50 less as i know they wont take much off the price as the laser isnt that well made.
I think its a good entry from S&W into the mini .380 world, But i think they could make a bigger splash with a micro 9mm at the $400-$550 range and it would be like the first year of the LCP where you couldn't find one they were selling so fast.
I prefer both the trigger and the recoil to the LCP (I have both). I don't care whether or not the laser gets activated, because I prefer the sights, which are some of the best on this size pistol.
