Picked up a new Taurus 738 TCP at my favorite big-box sporting goods store today. It was the display model, the last one they had in stock.

It's my first Taurus, so I didn't notice anything strange until I got home and went over the instruction manual. Looking at the photo of the security lock-out, and the description of same ("the mechanism is now virtually flush with the surface of the grip"), it felt weird that I was looking at just a hole in the frame on the actual pistol.

Just to be sure, I pulled the hex-key thingies out of their bag and tried them in the hole. Sure enough, there was nothing for them to take hold of.

I don't actually mind that this piece is missing, as (at least having never used one) it seems the kind of thing that could "wiggle on" unexpectedly. But the fact that it's just plain not there has me wondering what else might have been missed at the factory.

That said, the weapon looks good in every way, and passes all safety and function checks (trigger disconnect and reset, pencil test, y'all know the drill).

Here's an unshrunk image, if anybody needs it:

Is there something I'm not worried about that I should be? If there's something I'm missing here, let me know.

I would be concerned.

It certainly didn't ship from the factory like that!

I would take it back.
Somebody has been dinking with it.

You may be right.

So, if it didn't leave the factory like that, did someone take it out at the store? I'm not coming up with any likely scenario for how this thing just disappeared.

It IS a Taurus....

And before anyone says I'm bashing Taurus, I own 4 now having just been given one by my elderly father. I only had problems with 2 of the 4, it was 2 out of 3 :neener:

I am hopefully optimistic. I really like Rossi small frame revolvers. I never bought one because of that safety system.
Lol I wouldn't worry about the "lock" on their revolvers all it is is a set screw on the hammer with a ball detent to keep it from coming all the way out and the "key" is a basic security type Allen wrench.
to lock it all you do is back it out of the hammer tell the ball detent clicks all this does is get in the way of the hammer being cocked. But if you never unlock it there is about 0 chance of it getting in the way as its just a set screw below flush in the hammer
