Taurus 455SH4 from CDNN invesetments. $350. Titanium frame, cylinder, and barrel shroud. Stainless barrel liner. 45 ACP +P. 5 shot. Fixed sights. Came with 5 moon clips. Trigger is good but not great. Worse than my S&W 646 but better than most of my CZ's were new.

It's really light. I don't have a scale that can weight it but it feels about 1/3rd as heavy as the 646. If it proves reliable and I can hit with it I'll make it a CCW piece. Probably my primary.

CDNN has the adjustable sight version in stainless steel for $300 in 2, 4, or 6 inch barrels.

Shown next to my S&W 646.

OK, just for grins I took the grips off. There appeared to be sand inside the action! I don't know if it was left over from casting or what. I washed it out with some BreakFree powder blast and re-lubed with FP10.

The single action trigger is still a little long but the gritty feel is completely gone. Now it's quite compeditive with the 646. Double action is still a bit heavy, which should be fine for a "working" gun.

Also figured out that the plastic shim in the cylinder for shipping makes a good dry fire "snap cap".

Got out to the range today. Shot some 230 gr PMC ball ammo through it. Shot high and to the left. One handed it just shot high. Need to work on my grip. I think the sights are regulated for a ligher bullets. I'll be making some 185 grain reloads for it real soon.

Shooting at 30 feet I was able to get 1.7" five shot group resting the gun. So mechanically it's pretty accurate. But being so light it's hard to hold real steady.

Moon clips are flimsy compared to the S&W. They worked just fine and didn't require tools to load or unload. I wouldn't want to treat them too roughly though.

Twice, in double action, the trigger failed to reset. Cocking the the hammer corrected the condition. I have a feeling it was some left-over grit based on the feel when cocking the hammer.

Shooting one handed the recoil was a little painful. Not quite as bad as a 357 SP-101 with full power loads, but it definately let you know it went off.

Also shot some of my other guns. Was pleasantly suprised with the performace of my CZ 52. I got a 1.7" group with it also.

646 didn't like the dirty powder I used in my reloads and was binding up :( Need to clean it out good and use better powder in the future.

CZ 85 Compact had a couple FTFeed with my 12 round magazines. The springs seem weak on the magazines. I'll have to swap them out for some Wolffs.

I'm still not sold that either revolver is going to be better than the 85 Compact for carry. Big thing is the 455 has a huge wieght advantage and a more potent round. We'll see if the trigger does anything wierd next time out . . .

Snowman,
Nice gun, I saw those in the catalog. Two related experiences. The SA trigger on my Taurus got a lot better after an evening of dry firing which BTW is also about what it takes to destroy the orange disk.
