Some discussion on a blackpowder forum about avoiding new Uberti sixguns for some reason. I've bought 20 Uberti and Pietta guns over the last two years and 52 in total. I'm here to tell you both manufacturers have their act together. Today I received #20. This time a full flute 1860 from Midway. It may just be the nicest of the bunch. The case colors have me wondering why anybody still buys 2nd/3rd generation Colt's and two or three times the price. The walnut has some life in it but the pics don't do them justice. I'll probably strip the wood and refinish. It's going to Goon's for the full treatment, including the installation of a Kirst .45ACP conversion. I'd tell you I was going to make a special holster for it but there's already half a dozen laying around.

That's a nice looking gun, my favorite model.
What is the ballpark cost on a conversion like that?

It's going to be over $500 in parts, plus whatever the installation costs. I've installed one myself. Cutting the loading port isn't as bad as it sounds but the timing still needs work.

I hope you post pics when its done. I've forgotten a lot of what I used to know about cap and ball pistols, so please bear with me.
Will the barrel diameter be ok for 45 ACP?

Craig,

I have four full fluted Ubertis, two 1861s to replace the pair of Colt 1861s I sold and two of the 1860s. They are some of my favorite cap & ball revolvers.

Yea the modern PIettas are pretty good. I understand appreciation for the older ones, the newer ones do use mim parts so there's that. But for fit and finish the newer ones have gotten alot better
