New York hunters

Normally I spend my spring trout fishing but would like to hunt more. Like to take one with my black powder shotgun, hope to test some loads.

I would like to do the coyote hunt this year Sullivan county does. It's cheap to sign up and you get $100 a yote. Biggest gets like $2500. Getting a group of guys together and do some calling would be preferred.

Hopefully the main spot will be deemed a wild life management area by next season so we can hunt it again. Down side is no tree stands other than climber are allowed in WMU's.

My old man "camps" in schroon lake everyweeked from may to late September/Early October every year for the past 20 or so. So he relies on my brother and I to scout, do trail cams and hang stands. This year was just super busy for all of us, so didn't have the extra time to get out and set cameras . Our lease expired in July anyways ,had to have our stands removed by the end of June.

But I think you're right about using a new type of fire arm to hunt with to help drive motivation. Looking forward to taking my first deer with the handgun. Up to the point I've carried a handgun and a rifle but haven't had any opportunities present themselves to take a deer within my abilities with the handgun. Major limiting factor being iron sights and not the greatest vision. Have a vortex venom on its way to mount on my Blackhawk for next season. Had the cylinder throats reemed out last spring to shoot hard cast, so she should be good to go out to 50 yards comfortably.

I know about vision issues. I, when I was young, could shoot 209 shotgun primers at 15 yds, with a BB pistol now I can barely see the rear sights.

While I can't give you land to hunt on or time to get out and scout you may in the months prior to hunting season take the family on a hike in the woods and use that to scout some. You won't have to worry about scaring animals either, providing the weather is good. Don't your young ones to get sick.

I like that idea of taking them on a hike.

Reminded me of the time when my girlfriend and I started dating and I took her to set up a trail cam. She was walking and not paying much attention and got a stick all wrapped up between her legs and fell flat on her face. We laughed so friggin hard, was classic.q

My wife and I were out hiking with our shepard one time she slipped and slid down a hill, it was muddy, she was covered, the dog thought she was playing ran down the hill beside her. When I got to her he was licking her face.
We lived only a short distance from where she fell but had to walk down a road. I got the dirtiest look from an old couple driving down the road. I could imagine what they were thinking. What did you do to her. They drove real slow checking us out. All we could do is laugh.

My mix is a mixture of two mixes from frirnds and some added by myself.
Eight pounds of wet meat will fill up two of the walmart dehydetators. The thicker cuts of meat take longer to dry. I will start the drying up in the morning at 6am before head out to our stands. When we get back i check it out and take out the drue stuff. The thinner stuff generally will be done on the lower racks.

I will then put the undone thicker stuff on the bottom racks and the thinner undone stuff on the upper racks.
Once done I vecum seal it and throw it in the frezer until i want to use it.

Anyone ever make corned venison. Dad used to make it when I was a kid. My old dehydrator sucks, it does not have a fan, the bottom gets to hot. And the top to cold. The butcher here makes beef jerky for $12 a pound witch is not to bad. They make beef sticks there $6 a pound and are very good.

My view this morning until 11 or so. I seen five sets of deer tracks leading into the thick stuff below me. Hopefully they decide to venture up the hill for some acorns.

I hot eight pounds of deer jerky in the dehydorators this morning. I need to cut up that doe I shot Saturday so I can make a few more batches before I go back to Washington on Friday.
I have to weigh it when it gets dried out. It does shrink & lose weight.

This has been a good year. I got two more about an hour & a half ago. We just got back to the house, i try get pictures befor we hang them. If they don't come out I will take pics tomorrow. I like go get the hides off while they are still warm.

I live in Washington State, the average deer kill there is 26,000 deer a year. New York is smaller in square miles has a average yearly deer kill of 220,000 deer, Pennsylvania is smaller then New York State and has a yearly deer kill of 330,000 deer a year.
I take three weeks off every year to come back east to hunt deer, spend time with my family and friends.
