New York hunters

I went to Mayhoods early Sunday morning I picked up federal premium 223, 60 gr partitions. Wanted more bullet for the hunt than the 55's I have on hand. I should have done some more research though, the win 64 gr deer season xp bullets retain more energy downrange than the 60 gr partitions.

I saw a dead coyote lying by the roadside on my way there.
60 grain will be plenty, I've shot a few deer with 50 grain sp from a 222rem. High shoulder kill them very time. I never bin to mayhoods what kind of store is it.

Id you still need them bullets I can pick them up for you. Maybe split the cost of them and split the box?.

A dead coyote is a good coyote in my oppinion.

How are you set for 223 brass?
Ya the coyote are so big even a single one can take down a deer. Some guys won't shoot them because they say the shot scare the deer. But there never much deer when the coyote are around.

That's a good thing, hopefully we get the best part of the rut, instead of the bow hunters. Not that I have any thing against bow hunters, but it seems that they enjoy a longer season that gun hunters, get the benefit of daylight savings time and usually warmer weather.
Ya we always get the short end of the stick, I remember a few years it was a full moon and you never see them in the day then. I wish we had a early muzzleloader season.

I shoot them whenever the oppotunity presents itself. The only good coyote is a dead coyote like the wolves out west here.

Kill a coyote and you just increased the deer populaton by several deer a year.
Cougars kill an average of one deer a week, they did a study on cougars out here in Washington State. This one female cougar averaged a deer every four days.

Coyotes will hunt solo durring the day for mice and such.
But night time they pack.up and hunt bigger game.

Troy
Mayhoods is a decent gun store. They sell new & used guns, reloading supplies, blackpowder stuff, fishing supplies, trapping supplies, stuff for hiking and other stuff.
It is a nice place with a decent sellection of supplies and they will special order stuff for you. For that area it is probably the best gun store for miles around.
When we all get together we should take a ride over there.

always nice to have a good gun shop. Giffords in Walton is not bad the owner so say seems nice, but it's not to big. The shop my dad worked was great every thing you needed for guns, good prices, the owner did not care if he only made $20 a gun. That resulted in selling over 5000 guns a year. Sadly he shot old and sold the name to buy and went out, now the building is a hippy shop or all things.

the coyote do a lot of damage on the small game numbers to. They pack up here and come through like one a month, I've seen where there's a dozen or more. I shot 2 a few years ago on a deer I shot around 3 then waited for more deer, I shot a buck. When I got to the doe there was 3 eat ing it.

Over to my oldest sons place there are two differnt coyotes that show up on the gut piles missing front feet. One is missing the left front foot and the other one is missing the right front foot. They have been hitting gut piles for two deer seasons. They are both female and come to the gut piles with a single male coyote.

My oldest son shot two coyotes there two years ago and my 2nd son shot one last deer hunting season.

Gut piles would be a good place to set traps for coyotes if it were legal.

There is a simple map of the state land by me. I'll go in at the parking area to the east. it's fairly flat, lots of big oaks to. Wish we could cut wood in there I say 3 cherry burrls.

Coyote can be hard to trap, you need different year and soil the traps. Never had any problem with foxes. There was one were I did a fencing job one summer. She would come over when we stopped for lunch. She even would rub up against me and let me rub her back. I was very tempted to take her with me, but I don't think we can have them here.

That's a good idea never hurts to more bullets thanks.

I've got about 1500 to 1600 empty cases. About 1 prepped for reloading. One of our older sons is back home with his sons it's kind of cramped here right now. Our youngest is still home, but he is in college. The only place I have to set up my loader is the dinning room table and she protests when I do. I tell I either make it or spend more and buy it.

never bin to mayhoods what kind of store is it.

They also have archery and an indoor range for now shooters. They have the best selection of optics in the area since gander mountain went out of business.

For that area it is probably the best gun store for miles around.

That store is where is where I buy 7mm 139 sst's until recently. They went to the gmx bullet I special ordered some of the sst's.

It's nice to have a dedicated reloading area. Once I get our shed rebuilt I will be putting heat out there and set up an area to load out there as well. I have a walk in closet for my gun/reloading room.
I have a bunch of brass cleaned and preped. I store my prepped bras in sterilite container 3"x7"x11". I bought smaller size containers for calibers that I don't need that big of a container for..
Then I have three gallon plastic buckets for cleaned brass that I have a butt load of.

I might bring back some 223 brass and load up some 223 at my son's place when I have some dead time back there. He has two Hornady progressive presses.

I just helped my buddy cut up a nice little 5 point he got yesterday. He is still leading how to do it, he asked how I know. I said I kinda just always known, just have watched my dad when I was little. Back the we had the butcher the deer, it was like $25.

We never paid to have a deer cut up. After you do a few of them it's eazy/peazy.

My son said there have been several nice bucks killed by cars the past couple of days.
It would be nice if they coild save a few for us to shoot instead of wrecking their cars.

Bert i will have a bunch of dead time so I can prep & prime your brass and you can load it either at your place or come up to my brothers place & load it.
I don't load ammo for other people, i will get it ready but not load it.
I put togethet a large flat rate box for brass I want back there
..i put a bunch of 223 in it some 308, 7mm08, 6mm, 45lc, 32 S&W short, 40 caliber in it. My kids want the pistol brass and I will be useing the rifle brass.
I might pick ip a Remington 788 in 222 from my son. If I do I will load up some ammo for that while zi am there. I have 222 brass at my brothers place.
I am bringing a bunch of projectiles bach with me and will be making an order for stuff Mayhoods doesn't have in stock.
We will be dropping off deer hides there a couple of times between me & my brother and my two sons.

This will be a fun trip.

I understand your not loading for other people. Other than my SIL and daughter I don't either. I load for his 06 and 223. He is willing to learn reloading but we havent been able to get together.

I picked up some range brass mostly once fired lake city 308 if you want it. I have 74 pieces 60 + lake city. The 2 guys shooting m1a's gave it to me. I figured someone could use it.

I could use the 308. I have the H&R Handi Rifle back there and my brother picked up a old Savage 99 in 308. I am bringing back some Hornady SSTbullets to load for it I am also am sending back some a little 308 brass.

My brother picked ip a Frankfort wet tumbler (stainless stel pins). I could tumble your brass in.
Once I started wet tumbling I quit useing the vibratory tumble.

I will be needing a few things from Mayhoods if you want to split a box of them 22 caliber projectiles I will.pick them up and load some 222 up to use.

Another six hours and I will be in the air heading back there. A few budweisers tonight will be much enjoyed.

There is a spot close by that has some beaver that damed up a creek andcsre active there that my brother would like to set out at. We would both want to have the pelts taned and I'd like to try the meat out. He took the coarse and has his traping license. He bought some new and used traps yo set.

Ya some pelts would be nice. I'd like to do some deer hides but where I live makes it almost impossible to tan them. I'd like to make a old hunting hat with a beaver. Trapping can get pricey, but really don't need much to start.

I use to trap when I lived here and gave everything to my son and my brother bought a bunch or traps. So we have a bunch of stuff, so he needs to get some beaver traps and learn how to catch them.
Youtube I guess.

You know anyone else interested in the $5 first deer/first day?

If so collect the cash.
We need to talk about how to confirn.
Damn I'm happy to be back.
