I just got back from New Zealand and from a gun owners/ outdoorsman’s perspective it was amazing. Since there is no travel section I’m putting it up here. Mods please move if appropriate.

1. There is tons and tons of empty space and farmland, especially for an East Coaster like myself. Much of it semi-public and available to use for a hearty please and thank you.

2. All wild land mammals are considered pests. Shooting huge deer and pigs is encouraged and there are no limits. The locals will even thank you.

3. It appears that NFA weapons are legal! Silencers are legal and encouraged. It also appears that Full Auto’s are legal too. I don’t know the exact laws – I heard they are legal to own, but not to shoot. But the gun store had everything from Full Auto AK’s to a 20 mm Oerlikin AA gun for sale, for about what would be LEO prices here.

4. They have tanksforeverything.co.nz

I cannot wait to get back!!!

It's funny that suppressors have such a tactical mystique in the US, but in many other countries, they are simply considered polite.

heh

Switzerland is cool too.

I have never seen a private citizen owning a MODERN main battle tank though, although i have seen citizens with armed semi-modern jet fighters (missiles removed, but cannon is still live) although I'm fairly sure its allowed (if you could find one on the world market) in Switzerland.

I still have my New Zealand firearm's license issued 22 years ago!

I found a couple of nice shotguns and brought them back home.

You're right, very nice country, very nice people. They do have restrictions on handguns, shotguns and rifles a bit less.

Geese are a nuisance there, shoot all you want. Red deer are pretty plentiful, they even raise them for venison.

It's one of the few countries I would consider retiring to.
