I know where a beautiful mint, NIB specimen of an blue 6" S&W Model 14-2 is located, with box and papers! It looks as new as if S&W had just built this gun yesterday! It is of 1968 vintage-so, the Diamond magna's were not available during this year, But, the gun is equipped with the correct serial numbered non-diamond magna grips.

However, my concern is the rock bottom price of $750 for this Model 14-2? Although I,m drawn to perfectly mint guns, as much as I like this gun for the purpose of only collecting it, since this is a bygone era .38 Special Target revolver, I'm wondering if I should buy this gun for this price-or, to just forget about it's NIB condition-and, to just pass on buying this gun?

I'd like to hear all of your opinions so I can get a feel for whether this Model 14-2 would still be worthwhile to purchase for $750 + tax + DROS-or, would this be unwise-despite liking the condition of this gun-and therefore, should drop the bucket and run(So to speak)?

If you collect NIB safe queens then go for it, not many to choose from. The price is more than I would pay but I'm a cheap bastard. From an investment standpoint you well have to wait a long time to make any money on it, a long, long time. If you want a shooter there are better deals around. Last fall I bought this M14 for well under half of that NIB gun.
I would think $500 would be about top dollar, the demand for 6" 14-2's is not that high.

That's about what Fugate would be asking.:(

It boils down to if you want a safe queen or something to shoot and enjoy.

Actually, that price is hardly rock bottom, even if it is LNIB and has matching stocks, the box and paperwork.

At $750, that gun is priced in 95% Model 27-2 or -3 territory (sans box and papers though).

$750 is waaaay high, IMO. With the box and papers, and say in unfired condition, $450-$525 would be more like it, and I honestly wouldn't pay more than $500.

The 14 is a very nice gun, and would make a very cool addition to your collection, but not for that price.

If you're going to shoot it, there are less expensive shooters out there for around $450-$550. If you're going to look at it, then I think $750 for an absolutely unfired, 99+% Model 14-2 with box and papers and accessories and original grips and unturned cylinder is about right.

Look around...

Last summer I picked up a minty 1947 K-22 with 6 rounds through it for $525 with box and holster. Take your time and look around. I think there are better deals out there. But...if you have to have it right now, only you can say if it's worth it.

14's have their fans and collectors. I've seen some surprising prices on them. I would think $650 total OTD is not crazy; $750 sounds a bit high. I think it's priced waiting for that hard-core 14 fan who will pay that regardless.

With some hard shopping, you can find a mint 3.5" 27-2 sans box for that or about a c-note more. Example:
