Very accurate, nice finish and generally has a feel of quality about it. A friend of mine bought it second hand here in the UK. It just needs a better scope, which the owner and I both agree on.

Can you guess what rifle it is? I'll give you a clue: it was made in the 1980s in Europe.

Very cool...... I was studying it earlier and was at a loss as to what it was... (was thinking Sako but that had been eliminated already). Have never seen one but it does radiate a nice degree of "class". Wonder what one of those would be worth in U.S. dollars ?

Very nice! Now, how does it group? Needing to have pictures is an excellent excuse to go to the range again.

It's not my rifle but I got to fire 10 rounds at 25 yards with RWS Rifle Match ammo. It has the wrong scope on it (no parallax adjustment at 25 yards and limited to 3x mag) nonetheless I can tell that with the right scope it will put them all in one hole.

I like rifles built like the Mauser pictured. CZ's are very similar.

They're very nice, but I think they both wimped out putting a stamped trigger guard on them, rather than a forging. I believe their are others, like me, that would be willing to pay the premium for a rifle built like that.

I mean this as no slight to the fine Mauser the OP wrote about. (and it MAY be a forged trigger guard...but I don't see much of a contour...)

Very very nice! I was going to guess Krico. There is just something about the Old World craftsmanship which is lacking in many post 1960s American factory guns.

Not sure, but he picked it up for £400 second hand. Considering the excellent condition of the rifle, I think he got a great deal!
Looks great, and looks like he bought a lot of gun for the money. The 201s that have sold on GB recently (perhaps newer, perhaps less desirable if the trend is the same as it has been for many other rifle manufacturers of "not making them like they used to) have brought $1200-1500+ USD.

It is a Mauser (model 201)

It doesn't show nicely in the images but the bluing on that rifle is the best I've ever seen on a rimfire!
While it's technically not a Kleinguenther, the same rifle was sold in the US as the K-22. A superb rifle by either name.

SO if your buddy is doing most of his shooting at 25 meters with that scope......

Have him point the rifle at the deep blue sky. Use the focus ring at the rear of the scope to adjust the cross hairs to crisp and clear focus.

Now point the rifle at the 25 meter target.

Remove that front ring on the scope that has the writing on it and inside the barrel of the scope you will see a threaded ring with the lens mounted in it. The edge of that ring closest to the front likely has two squarish notches in it. Using your clean fingers knuckles rotate that ring (using the notches for friction) one way or the other until the 25 meter target is in crisp clear focus.

Don't touch the lens.

Replace the end ring.

The scope is now adjusted for parallax at 25 meters just like an AO scope set on 25.

That is one fine looking rifle.

Odd Job has stumbled upon a very interesting rifle. Stellite locking lugs, double set triggers made by three different companies (in name) and imported into the USA.
Mauser Model 201, .22LR (Same as Kleinguenther K-22), SOLD! This is the exact same rifle as the Kleinguenther K-22. An ex-employee of Kleinguenther started Precision Imports in San Antonio and went direct to Mauser to start importing rifles. Because Mauser already had an agreement in place with Kleinguenther, Mauser (who owned Voere at the time) re-branded this rifle and changed the name to Mauser-Werke Obernoure W-Germany and gave it a model number of 201. There were not that many model 201 rifles sold in the U.S.A. so they are pretty rare.
