NICS Delay.

Yes, I agree with the previous post for applying for a UPIN. It eliminates, well most of the time, the "delay". It is easy to apply for and if you have no previous trouble with the law, you can get in in a week.
You may receive a UPIN after submitting a Voluntary Appeal File (VAF). The FBI will only issue one if it will help to prevent unnecessary DENYs or EXTENDED DELAYs.

Lets leave the DENY out of this for now, how on earth will anyone know why their transfer was delayed?

So lets say this DELAY happens every time. What exactly should be submitted as "evidence", with your VAF application, which will hopefully get you a UPIN, so NICS will stop with the DELAYs?

Someone with a UPIN, who submitted a VAF because they were getting DELAYED, and who is no longer DELAYED, please post here so the DELAYees know how to go about this. Please.

Maybe a 15 min waite . No big deal.

That has been my typical experience. The one time I had a delay it was 15 minutes on top of the normal 15 minutes. I have never been in a gun store where I minded wandering around for a little bit looking at something else while a check went through. The shotgun and this lower are the only two times so far where the delay exceeded 24 hours.

Also, getting a STATE carry permit is meaningless, for a FEDERAL background check. See above paragraph, you still are susceptible to it. I can't tell you how many time you guys with state carry permits say, after I tell you you've been put on 'delay' - "But I have a permit to carry!" and I'll tell you "The FBI doesn't care about that!"

Only reason I brought it up in this thread is because the clerk at Academy mentioned it. Didn't sound accurate then but wanted to be sure. I am forgetful at times and know gun clerks are as well. When I looked over the lower on Saturday I said I'll take it. The clerk said to bring it to the cashier and have a nice day. I'd love to but need a 4473 first.

The check was approved and I was able to pickup my lower the other day. I am still contemplating applying for a UPIN.

Sigh, the most common complaint I hear from gun dealers concerning my NICS BG checks is "Delay? this guy has a UPIN, how can he be delayed?".

Not saying I always get delayed, I don't. Just saying the reasons for delays are varied and unpredictable, unless the President just had a gun control press conference, in which case a delay is all but certain owing to volume.

There is a very narrow set of reason why a UPIN will eliminate a delay, the depth of the examiner queue will determine if the UPIN helps or not.

Considering yes. Not like I am filling out the VAF paperwork on my desk already. I attempted to buy the shotgun and got the lower during peak shopping times of the year, around holidays. I have a couple more firearm purchases planned for Febuary-March time frame. If delays keep occurring past peak season the consideration will probably get higher.
