NJ - Renew or reapply for Handgun purchasing permit?

When I first got my FIDC, I picked up a pistol purchase permit too, but low on funds I didn't buy anything and it's long since expired. I remember hearing you can get an extension or renewal of an old unused permit... is this true? Or do I have to go through the entire handgun purchase permit proceedure again?

The purchase permit is good for 90 days and you can ask for an extention "at that time". After 90 days you have to go through the whole song and dance all over.
(You didnt think they were going to make it easy for you, did you?)

Theoretically you can renew the permit to purchase. If its been a long time I think the Chief will make you go thru the process again. However, this time he may forego the FBI check and just rely on the local and state check.
