As has been posted on THR many times, we all know the NRA can stray when defending our gun rights. Specifically, in the past NRA (and esp. NRA-ILA) have supported trying to appease the gun banners on topics such as semi-autos, hi cap mags, and gun shows. Well we NRA life members have a chance to change that with the current election of NRA Directors.

There are several nominees who are active 50 caliber rifle shooters like Ronnie Barrett and John Burtt. Because the 50 Caliber rifles are at the very top of the gun banning lists, it is more likely that they will take a hard line stance against compromising. There are also several nominees who are associated with "black rifle" shooting. Again, it is likely that these candidates will oppose compromises on mag capacity and ammo restrictions.

So, if you are a NRA life member, please take extra time to review the nominees and choose Directors who are most likely to stand up for all gun owners. And if you know of a particularly good nominee, please post that so we can be sure to vote for them.

Bob Viden is a member of the Fifty Caliber Shooters Association

Scott Bach is founding chairman of the NRA right to carry committee

Grover Norquist is also a FCSA member. So right there we have 4 potential 50 Caliber shooters on the NRA board.

Which other nominees do we know are staunch right-to-carry advocates? Or how about black gun friendly?

The only way to truly restore our 2nd Amendment right is to support the Libertarian Party or move the Republican Party back to its original, small government, constitutional-based roots.

The NRA is too political and to willing compromise. The 2nd Amendment is absolute and non-negotiable.

Gardien,

Not sure what the objective of your reply was, but it makes no sense to me whatsoever. As an active member of the Libertarian Party for over 20 years I can assure you that it is not a common sentiment among members that the LP is the "only way". Rather, the LP is a political party that recognizes that progress is best made through voluntary associations.

The NRA is such a voluntary organization. So we should encourage firm, pro-rights individuals to seek the NRA Board of Directors not allow it to be taken over by compromisers.

By the way, Bob Barr, 2008 Libertarian Party Presidential candidate, served for many years on the NRA BOD. If we could get just ten more "stand firm" types like him on the NRA BOD, that will make a huge difference in the direction the organization, and the country, takes.

so when is the election?

who are all the nominees?

are they mailing out ballots or doing it at the convention?

Balloting is done by mail. They have been sent to voting members (Life and 5-Year Members). They need to be returned to the auditors by April 26.

26 director positions are being decided (25 3-year and 1 1-year term). They are decided purely by who receives the most votes. A list of nominees was included in the NRA publications and with the ballot. Write-ins are also allowed.

life members or members with 5 consecutive years membership only.

I noticed there is a write in -- maybe we should pick a couple guys from THR.

I have been waiting to do a little research this weekend to see who would be best for the job.

It is too important to not vote or just pick whomever has the best sounding name as some like to do it.

:)

The write-ins are a good idea. Even if they aren't elected this time around, strong write-ins have been known to be considered in subsequent years by the nomination committee. That is one way "celebrity" candidates end up becoming active...in essence they get drafted.

Just make sure you don't choose too many candidates as your ballot will then be rejected. You are limited to 26 choices including write-ins.

So far, I am only up to 16 candidates whom I feel will be hard hitters. So I would appreciate any suggestions for write-in candidates.

Also, it looks like The Firearms Coalition have made their own recommendations:
