I thought this is worth knowing- I emailed Kershaw for a spare torsion bar for my Clash. They promptly replied, saying they stock parts only for made in USA models. I'm very disappointed... one more reason to buy USA. However, the knife is the best I've ever used for EDC. Kershaw makes great knives at incredibly low prices, but this is a disappointment.

Knife not broken

Yup, I know they would replace it, I just asked if I could purchase a spare torsion bar in case this one eventually fails. I worry that eventually the knife will be discontinued, and I hear that all torsion bars may be prone to failure under prolonged heavy use. Kershaw is top notch in the warranty department.

Sounds more like they don't stock items for sale. It is very common for a manufacturer to keep repair parts that they won't sell.

I inquired about purchasing a new torsion bar/spring for my Blur...and they sent me two (free of charge), got them in about 3 days.

(Mine is U.S. made and I am State-Side)

I'm surprised that they'd stock and sell some and not others for knives still in production.

You may want to ask what models currently use the same spring as in the Clash and try to find out if any of the U.S. knives use the same mechanism.

I sent a Kershaw knife back to the factory a while back. I broke the blade doing something stupid. Confessed the whole story to them, and asked if I could pay to have it repaired. Nothing doing........ they just replaced it with a new one. Their warranty is great. Only knives I buy anymore.

Heh.

That's good stuff.

You know, there's another couple of US manufacturers out there who do that as well. Had it happen to me a couple of times. Once with a new (defective) knife, once with an old beat up knife.

Customer loyalty: you can't buy it, and it's the most valuable and fragile part of your business.

I had read somewhere that Kershaw has discontinued all non-USA made products. I'm sure they'd still support a replacement for failure, but I was under the impression that they no longer produce the foreign made knives.

That may be why parts aren't being sold for those knives. Of course, it could all be internet legend too.

You're probably thinking about Buck, which also isn't true, since Kershaw is Kai Corporation, a Japanese company.

If you like the Clash this much, and buying certain parts for it isn't a possibility, consider simply buying a spare Clash (or even two spares). Just keep them stored NIB, so if your current Clash breaks, you have two brand new knives ready to go.

It just depends how much you like it, and how hard of a time you'll have finding a new EDC you like as much as you like this one - assuming it is discontinued eventually, and your Clash later breaks.

I can think of a few times I wish I had done this, but didn't. It's a simple solution to the problem.
