I have a Norinco 1911 on which the sight paint has completely faded away over time. I want to replace the sights but some people have told me that replacement 1911 sights won't drop in and I'd have to get the slide milled :what:

Has anyone undertaken a similar project? If worst comes to worst I might just try to get some type of sight paint.

IF the gun has standard dimension rear sight dovetail slots and front sight tenon holes in the slide (the front sight is staked in from the underside), standard sights should work and you should not need any slide machine work unless you wish to have a dovetailed front sight. Many gunsmiths do recommend it but it is not absolutely necessary.

The Norinco has normal sight cuts. I can't recall if the front is narrow or wide tenon, but standard sights will work.

Mine were replaced with tall three-dot sights, like what you would find on a new Colt. They work well, and went into the stock rear cut and front sight tenon hole.
