North Texas Submachine Gun Match

When: Saturday, November 22, 2003

Where: Magnum Shooting Range
4934 Duck Creek Rd
Sanger, TX 76266
(940)458-7000

The match will be rain or shine, so bring appropriate beverages, food and clothes.

What to bring: You will need at least 4 20rd+ magazines, a mag pouch, and at least 300rds of ammo and a SMG (or something similar).

This match is designed to be fun/educational. It will be challenging enough for the experienced shooter and simple enough for the novice. All are welcome!

It will be open to all hand held automatics (M16,G3’s, etc.), but keep in mind the courses of fire have been designed for the SMG.

This is a full auto shoot. Please remember to bring along documentation of legal compliance.

Due to time constraints we can only accommodate 40 shooters. First come first served.

Match fee is $20 per person and $15 per additional gun.

Sign in is at 8:30 am and will start shooting promptly at 9:00am. Plan on the match to take most of the day. If you have any questions please call (940)891-0205.

Daylight permitting, there will be a time for shooting each others’ guns following the match.

Non-entrant spectators are welcome. Some participants will allow you to shoot their SMGs, but you should bring fresh, FACTORY ammo or offer to reimburse the owners for theirs.

This is the second such match Chris has put on. The first one was a LOT of fun. If you're in the area, come on by. You can e-mail or PM me for directions to the range.

Can I shoot it with a semi AR-15 or other semiauto? Is it a trophy match or prize match or just for bragging rights?

Thank you!

gl - - -

No, sorry - - This is a full auto only match. They wouldn't even allow me to select SEMI on my Thompson. ;)

Mostly a bragging rights thing, really. Last match, there were some modest cash prizes and minor merchandise awards, donated by local merchants.

Chris was talking about getting some small trophies or plaques, but doubt if they'll be part of the NOV match. He just about broke even on the SEP match, but he has some of the target stands already built for this one.

Come on out anyway - - Lots of low-key fun, kinda like IPSC and IDPA were before so many got all wound up in leagues and national standings.

SMG shooting in a match is rather like shooting your carry plistol in a match. After a time, you don't LEARN much, just standing and blasting off ammo from some certain range. Multiple targets, mag changes under time pressure, problem solving - - - Dunno what kind of "training" you could call it, but it is a LOTTA fun for anyone who ever watched SGT Saunders on TV or saw a war movie.

Best,
Johnny

Darn that sounds like a lot of fun! Long way to drive and my schedule won't allow it anyway, though:(

Johnny, this gonna be a an annual event? Might have to break out a buzz-gun or two (or three) and make plans for next year:D

All RIIIGHT!

Denny, it'd be great to see you - - -

All credit to Chris Hipes for having the idea and setting up the pattern, which keeps on evolving. His idea is for the subgun match to be an every-other month event, just for folks to get together and have a bit of fun, show off their toys, and produce some empty brass. :p

If response keeps up and grows as it has here at the start, a nice-size yearly event is quite possible. You know how this sort of thing goes - - Sometimes it rocks along at an okay level for a long time, sometimes it just tapers off to a small, hard core, and sometimes, it expands wildly.

I'm hoping things will have shaken out enough so there can be a pretty big meet, perhaps sometime in late spring, before sweltering weather is upon us. It might have to wait til next fall. High summer in North Texas is not the time for an all day outdoors event. Not as humid as along the Gulf coast, nor as high-temp as West Texas/NM/AZ, but the combination can be exhausting . . . .

Best,
Johnny

Back to Top - - -

Just a reminder - - come and bring plenty of ammo. And guns, of course. Not only what you want to shoot in the match, but other Class 3 stuff as well.

Best,
Johnny

Once more - - -

LAST MINUTE REMINDER

Even if you hadn't planned to come, you can arrive as late as 10 a.m. and still shoot most, if not all, of the stages.

Come any time and be part of the cheering section, and participate in the free fire period after the match.

Best,
Johnny
