I am currently building a 280 Ackley Improved and my gunsmith has recommended the Nosler Brass. I am looking for a source of 280 AI brass, preferably Nosler.

I realize I can easily fire form my brass, I was hoping for a shortcut and correctly head stamped brass.

I appreciate any input.

There was a good amount available locally at least as of two weeks ago. Your best bet if you want it in short order is to look on gunbroker. Other than that, get on the "notify me" list on a bunch of different retailers and see how you do. I had to do the same thing looking for 257 Roberts brass a year or so ago.

The best time to buy brass is any time it comes available.

Thanks

Old thread warning!!! :what:

Just a heads up for anyone looking. I received an email from Nosler. The next 280 Ackley Improved brass production run will happen in about one month and should be on dealer shelves in early September.

I hope this helps anyone looking. :)

If it were me I would buy some new brass with correct head stamp for hunting but all my practice ammo would be made with once fired and then fireformed brass. I'm "frugal"... :p

ArchAngelCD,

I understand and very much appreciate frugal.

At this point in my life, fully prepped and primed brass, even at the cost of Nosler's brass, is a more frugal way for me to shoot 280 AI. By the time I get brass, load it, fire form it, anneal it, trim to length, turn the necks, clean and uniform the primer pockets, debur the primer holes, and prime the brass.... none of which I do with Nosler brass. It just makes more sense based upon my situation to purchase Nosler brass. YMMV

Nosler brass for me has been... neck size, load, shoot.

I have never tried the process with cheap loaded 280. That certainly would save me some steps in brass prep.

I am looking forward to shooting this gun some more.
