? noslers 95 grain BT

I like to ask about the 95 grain noslers BT in the 243 cal.
I was wondering if the bullet will fail if it hits bone? or a shoulder shot.
I was told the sierra 85 grain HPBT to stay away from shoulder shot .The sierra are more deadly in the boiler room.
What are your views on this subject????

No firsthand experiance with it but.

Unless it is a bonded core bullet, a Boat-Tail will often fail when hitting bone.

The tapered BT base works just like a Morse Tapered chuck in a lathe or drill press.

If the core slips just a frog-hair, it slips all the way and the jacket comes off.

Lots of Nolser 95 gr BT shoulder shot deer have passed thru my freezer! My son has shot many with the little purple tipped pill! So have many 115 gr Blue tipped .25 Cal ones too.

I had the jacket come off of a 100 GR 25 cal Ballistic Tip. It was a 250 Savage at just over 10 feet, so it was pretty much muzzle velocity of 2800 FPS. It was a mid sized buck, and the jacket and core were sitting beside each other just under the hide on the opposite side of the deer. I considered that fine performance and have no problem with using them.

I have shot many deer with .257cal 100-115gr. Nosler ballistic tip missles and have put them down every time. They should work for you, or you could try the 95gr. Nosler Partions.

Not that much difference in Ballistic coefficients between the BT and Partition :

.379 vs .365

At 3000 f/sec, the table at the back of my Nosler reloading manual shows a velocity difference of less than 100 f/sec a bullet drop difference of less than 1/2 an inch, at 400 yards.

Unless you are shooting 600 yards (at which point a 95 grain bullet does not have enough energy left to humanely kill a deer, IMO) there is no reason to shoot boat-tailed bullets in a .243, as the BC advantages are not that great in such tiny bullets. If you are at all concerned about the bullet coming apart, don't let .3 inches of drop at 400 yards keep you from using the Partiton.

Just my .$02, which I purchased at great expense in time, effort and money while trying to build the perfect .270 Win load for deer........

....... That said, I use 150grain Sierra Gamekings (a boat-tailed bullet) over 58.0 grains of IMR 7828 and CCI 250 in a Winchester case. It works for me.

It seems to me that the lead core of Sierra GameKings is very soft.... just my experience. My 150g .270s (leaving at 2900) come apart in the boiler room on frontal shots under 100 yards, w/o penetrating past the diaphram into mess making territory.
