Not-so-concealed carry ..... for ''big boy''!!

Coulda put this in hunting but seemed here was relevant also.

I intend to use this fella for hunting this season ..... or maybe even the .454 Raging Bull ... but .... decided I really needed something in which to carry the larger ''tools''.!! Being in this case an attached red dot ... or, scope on Bull .... needed something of good size. The latter BTW is shorter barrel but packing inside holster takes care of that.

I explored not long ago and ran across The Concealment Shop Inc out of Mesquite TX.

I called them (972-289-8997) - their site is not ideal because rather too many pics on one page ... tho if you have a fast connection, worth a look of course. Explore 'holsters' and then IIRC, 'Large' holsters.

Discussed my needs with a most helpful lady and made an order ... which was to include, for an extra $10, a belt as well. Total with shipping was $57.95.

I set up the straps and belt etc with some experiment and so far have settled on a position as shown in pic series below. I show this for general interest but also because I enjoy good products and like to let others see them .... good companies IMO earn recommendation with quality goods.

This is the set-up as I have it right now - with gun outside to show comparison. Shoulder strap is set quite high, and this means belt also rides high which is good ... it stays above leatherman and carry piece.

This is a front view ... with angle about as I want it ... tho as yet may bring it up higher... for easier walking.

And finally ... partly from the right - showing belt being worn above pants belt. Holster has been allowed to be more angled here too. Looks like I should eat a bit less too! !!

Needless to say - this is a big piece to carry at all .. and concealed? Well ... this set-up under a suitable coat and perhaps it just might but .. this is not a case for concealment .. just a means of carry to keep hands free.

The front ''spine'' of the holster has three pairs of elastic loops for keeping spare rounds .. very handy.

Any piece this size will be something of a burden but this rig gets IMO real close to maximizing comfort and functionality.

uglygun ... I was down at the market hall gun show in Dallas last June ... and saw this and bought it ... made by ''Jim Burke'' .. a TX guy..

It is a fairly classic style high ride type ...... keeps my snub quite high around kidney area but is quick for draw. Suits J frames.

Here's a coupla pics of it closer ... one with snub in place. It is well stained because it is my main summer carry . gets a tad sweaty! Still using it now tho cos it makes a good 2nd gun position, with auto in sho rig . and is enough on its own around house and office .. very comfortable.

Small World!

I have a Dan Wesson .357 magnum.

I mounted a red-dot sight on the 8" cowl to use as a hunting pistol, and use the exact same rig to carry it.

To be honest, I only ever had it in the woods one time hunting wild pigs here in Texas. But, it was fun!

Doubt mine will be out that often Chicken but .... I intend to use this puppy for deer this year .. rifle stays at home. It's the sorta rig that is great to have ... simply because it allows the carry, at all! I expect mine will hang on back of door 11 months outa 12 but ... I rather like it.

Having said that ... I am thinking too that there might be one or two groundhog excursions possible too ..

Mine just lets the grip hang out. I think P95Carry has the same thing.

I use an Uncle Mike's vertical shoulder holster to carry my scoped Raging Bull. I was surprised to discover that it actually conceals quite well under almost any covering garment. Even my lightweight vest makes it disappear. So far I haven't found any need to do that, though.

Wait, maybe I have. Putting it under a vest or jacket should make up for the lack of a holster flap.

I don't have a picture of the holster, but here's the gun.

maytom - no cover flap ... just an optional retension strap .. velcro fixed.

I would probably not be using this unprotected .... tho as Chicken says yeah . it is flapless. However - I would anticipate only using this in hunting season mostly ... and thus it will be under an outer layer of clothing. In warmer conditions I would make provision for protecting it by carrying an ultra light rain jacket ... sorta thing that all but fits in a pocket.

P95Carry: My rig is probably a couple of inches shorter than that, which would definitely make a difference. Your would probably extend below my vest. I'm not that tall.

FYI, if you like that little Burke Holster, you might want to order additional while existing stocks remain.

At the most recent Market Hall show, I was browsing at that display. The young man and woman tending the table mentioned that the maker had recently died, and they only had these left. There were quite a few, for various types of handguns. They saaid they were trying to get someone else interested in building them . . . .

Sorry I don't have additional information. IIRC, the company was out of Paris, Texas.

Johnny .... thank you Sir for the head's up ........ that is sad. Of course only met the Jim just the once back in June ....... but reckoned he had some great product to sell. Yep, Paris, TX, that's right.

He was an awesome character ...... a distinct ''presence''! He was very ''cowboy'' and sported something of a ''Wild Bill Hickock'' beard/mustache.

I'd like to have another for later I must say but .. gave the card away to a local guy a while back and no longer have the address. If I can retrieve that info I may well make inquiries.

It strikes me that, when carrying the truely Big handguns, we tend to carry them more like a sword than any firearm.

Cut the bottom outta P95's holster and it would double for packin' a broadsword.
