I picked this up a couple of weeks ago. This is a serious snubby. A Lew Horton "1 of 250", Model 24-6, 44 Special, with a 3" barrel. The front sight is obviously aftermarket, as are the grips. It came to me with a set of "no name" target grips that I switched out for some Altamont "Cokes" I had in a drawer. Also included the box and papers. It's big. It's heavy. No chance I'll carry it in anything but a range bag. :) If the range ever opens again that is. :(

(anything that looks like a flaw in the finish is a result of poor photography and even worse lighting.)

I've put 50 rounds through it. It shoots pretty good. :)

No, it's a square butt. I like the target style stocks anyway. It's a range toy for me. I'm MUCH to lazy to lug around something this heavy.

I suppose it came originally with Altamont Magna's. I might get a set of them and put them on with a BK, but for now, I'm happy with the "Cokes."

I had a 29-3 that went to Horton. It merely confirmed I don’t like Magnums and prefer 4” barrels. Best holster I could find for it was a pancake. I got one from Simply Rugged. Sold it and got something else.

Fine looking S&W .44 special. I like the front sight blade and the grips you have on it. It all goes together good. I'd figure out a way to carry it at least some of the time. Some good leather exist for short barreled N-frames.
 
I also have a model 24 much like yours. Mine is obviously later though since it's not a five screw( I don't remember the dash #) Absolutely love the thing.
 
I came across one of those at a gun show last year. I was eyeing it up. The vendor picked it up and asked if I wanted to handle it. He extended it towards me.

Then I saw the asking price, and politely said thank you and declined. Those sure are nice on the old eyeballs.

Don't let the five screw fool you. It's not really that old. According to SCSW4, it's from 2006. I think S&W just did the five screw as part of their "classic series." I've got a 27-9 on layaway now that's also a five screw. I can't find the layaway receipt right now, but I suspect it's from the same time period.

Edited to add. I found the receipt for the 27-9. SCSW4 makes the date as 2015. It is still a five screw however.

Man, that's beautiful. I love 3" revolvers. Most of the advantages of both the 4" and the 2.5" in one package.
 
Funny...I just responded to a thread about Red Hawks and had the link to the pic saved. Love Smith's fit and finish and have a couple in the safe. But when I want to throw the HEAVY stuff I go to the RH.
