NRA ballots: any insights?

If this bullet voting shows some promise to make change I'll get a membership just to be able to vote in a better direction the next board election.

After an attempted takeover of the NRA a couple of decades ago (I don't remember exactly when, maybe someone else remembers more details) the bylaws were changed so that you must be a dues-paying member for FIVE YEARS before you earn voting rights. If you let your membership lapse, I believe the clock resets.

For this reason I've kept up my annual NRA membership, but do not donate any further than that.

I believe that timeframe didn't apply to life members. I definitely could be wrong on that.

You are correct. Lifetime members are granted immediate voting rights. From the NRA Bylaws dated 2009:

Lifetime members and annual members with five or more consecutive years of membership, as shown in the Association's membership records, who have attained the age of 18 years and who are citizens of the United States of America shall be entitled to vote.

Be aware, however, that the current NRA Lifetime membership is $1,500, or $25/month for 60 months. There are sales from time to time that lower this cost.

I’m still not a member. I had intended to join right out of college but that’s about the time that LaPierre turned the ship towards the rocks and pinned the throttle. It would be nice if there was a way for folks like me to have a say, and I feel like my lack of contribution is a small statement, but in the grand scheme I have no say in an organization I would like to be a part of but can’t stomach the leadership. The other groups are better but don’t hVe the power that the NRA has (had is more correct)

Hand money over to an organization that squanders half and uses the other half for things with which I disagree. I do enough of that when I pay taxes. No thanks!

Except voting in the NRA board member election does next to nothing given the nominating process and how it is controlled by the nominating committee that is under WLP thumb. Voting or not results in the same thing with the current incarnation of the NRA.
