I am a certified NRA instructor in N.J. I also teach non-NRA courses. Can anyone with experience with the NRA insurance plans or knows anything about this insurance give me some insight as to if this insurance is good or have negative parts they are not disclosing. I am interested in the plans with professional coverage that is supposed to cover NRA and non-NRA courses and also being sued for allegations of negligent training later down the road if they have an accident. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

I've never had to use my NRA coverage, so I can't comment on if it really covers everything it says it covers.

My very general advice is to make sure you do understand the terms and conditions of what they say they will cover, especially in regards to non-NRA classes, and make sure you meet those terms and conditions when teaching.

In regards to NRA classes, my understanding is that the class has to be taught 100% in accordance with NRA standards for the coverage to be effective.

Sorry I can't help more. Possibly you can review the policy closely and talk to the agent if you have any other questions. Or maybe have an attorney look it over?

The NRA insurance is pretty decent, BUT it does not cover firing exercises on private property. That's the one stipulation/exclusion I remember about it.

West Bend Ins. offers a policy which DOES cover private property firing exercises.
