I'll probably be in Washington DC in October but won't be renting a car (mostly attending a conference in Bethesda, MD). Was thinking about trying to get out to Fairfax, VA and visiting the NRA museum but won't have a car. Is there any way of getting out there without a car? Metrorail, etc?
Thanks in advance.

The orange line is your best bet, but it doesn't go out that far IIRC. You could take the orange line to Vienna and then grab a cab.....

That's correct. Vienna is as far as you can get on the Metro. There is the CUE bus that will get you around the block from there (to corner of Jermantown and 50). My wife sometimes takes a cab from the Vienna station to our house up the street from the NRA, and she estimates 12 bucks for the fare.

Maybe you can get to Vienna via the metro and a THR contingent can meet you there. There's also the NRA range, so you could do some shooting during the same trip...

10 bucks a day! Yikes, that's worth it just to avoid taking my personal vehicle downtown....

Even with a car I had trouble finding it (and it's the second time I've been to it too).

They need to triple the gallery space and spread things out. The way the Civil War guns are displayed is too compact and you can't enjoy them. Gettysburg and Chattanooga National Battlefield Park do a much better job. Now, their display for more modern guns is tops.

Becareful in that gift shop. Your wallet can be a lot lighter by the time you leave and you may not be able to carry a lot of loot on the bus.

Thanks everybody! I'm hoping I'll have time to make my getaway to Fairfax. :D
