Within hours of the Assault Weapon Ban bill A2466 passing the Assembly, Senator Frank Padavan (R-Queens) introduced the bill in the Senate S5504. This bill repeals the existing Assault Weapon definition and replaces it with new definition language. The bill has been referred to Senator Bruno's Rules committee bypassing usual the usual channel of Senator Volker's Codes committee.

Some facts about new Assault Weapon Ban bill A2466/S5504

Bans all semi-auto rifles that have a detachable magazine and one or more of the following. Pistol grip (no further definition) Thumbhole, telescoping or folding stock Compensator (porting) Muzzle brake

Bans all semi-auto pistols and centerfire rifles that have fixed magazine of over 10 rounds.

Bans all semi-auto pistols with one or more of the following Second hand grip or pistol grip that can be held by non-trigger hand. Folding, telescoping or thumbhole stock. Heat shield Muzzle brake or compensator (porting.

Bans all semi-auto shotguns with one or more of the following Pistol grip or vertical handgrip (neither term is defined. Folding, telescoping or thumbhole stock. Fixed magazine of more than 5 rounds. Detachable magazine.

Revolving cylinder shotguns are also banned.

Any of the above parts in the possession of the gun owner is considered to be an assault weapon. In other words, if you remove the offending parts from your gun and keep them, you still have a banned weapon.

Options for the owner of banned guns. Render the gun permanently inoperable. Turn it in to police, no compensation. Register the gun with the State Police.

Proof positive that the gungrabbers are clueless as to what gun laws are already in the books. Also they will never stop at background checks, taxes, or registration. They push for COMPLETE FIREARMS BANS. Many of the items 'banned' are already highly restricted by federal law and already banned under NY state law.

Pistols with 2 grips are considered Any-Other-Weapon under the 1934 NFA. Possession of an unregistered AOW gets you up to 10 years in federal prison, same as owning an illegal machinegun.

Pistols with a folding stock are Short Barreled Rifles. Same penalty as an illegal MG.

Revolving cylinder shotguns are Destructive Devices. Same as illegal MG.

All NFA items are already highly regulated by ATF and require $200 transfer tax, 3-12month background check, finger prints, passport photos, signature of Law Enforcement, and registration. All of these infringements that those gungrabbing hypocrites consider 'sensible' still aren't enough to satisfy them.
:banghead:

New York is very Class 3 unfriendly so what you have is a new bill that bans guns that are already banned by state law and also highly restricted by federal law. I'm sure this new ban will do so much to lower their crime rate.

what the hell is wrong with heat sheilding or porting?

... because it looks like an "EVIL BLACK RIFLE" of sorts...

they should make a shirt...
"I HATE NY"

instead of "I [heart] NY"

The title of this thread implies that the authors of every other AWB may not have been, or weren't, ignoramuses. I must stand up and dispute that claim...

Does that mean an M1A is legal? Maybe I am not reading that right.

I am sure I would not want to test that theory in the state courts.

Can someone in the know PLEASE offer up an explaination of how & why this bill bypassed the usual channel of Senator Volker's Codes committee???

Is the fix in? Are we being sold down the river by our state's "Republicans"???
