I was loading up a few 44s tonight, 247 gr cast bullets I pulled over 20.2 gr of IMR-4227.

The question came up after I had seated and crimped of OAL. Lyman lists an OAL of 1.71 for 245 gr cast bullets. I measured mine at 1.598-1.060. Too deep? It's deeper than anything listed in the manual.

For comparison I seated a bullet to 1.71 on an unprimed / uncharged case. It seems way too shallow to me. Most of the other loads list 1.61, and I'm starting to think 1.71 may be a misprint. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361690836.272657.jpg

The OAL from Lyman may be with a round nose, where as the other may be for flat point. At any rate
Your bullet should have a crimp cannilure to tell you where to seat.

With lead bullets for revolvers seat in the groove, like the round on the left. The 1.71 is not a misprint, but probably for a different bullet.
