Look for yourself: http://www.policeforum.org/library/crime/PERFPresentationonGunViolence.pdf

Obama said the PERF 2010 survey found that more than one third of police departments reported an increase in criminals' use of assault weapons and high capacity magazines since the prohibition expired in 2004. Here's what the PERF surveys said in the URL posted above...

Gun crime with previously banned assault weapons - 58% said same or less, 9.7% said increasing (rest responded "don't know").

Gun crime with high capacity magazines - 56.9% said same or less, 13.7% said increasing.

Gun Theft - 42% same or less, 42.2% increasing.

Street purchasing of ILLEGAL guns - 27.5% same or less, 31% increasing.

Where gun crime is rated as "problematic" or "very extensive", the key factors given were rated as 45.1% gangs, 41.7% drugs.

Even if you add together the 9.7% that said assault weapon crimes were increasing and the 13.7% that said high capacity magazine use in crimes was increasing, you're still way under "one third". And when the police respond that gangs and drugs are responsible for almost 90% of the gun crimes they see, the path forward is to restrict the hardware that can be owned by LAW ABIDING people?

Sorry, Mr. President, your "facts" stink and your "solutions" stink worse.

let me help you understand the potus' math my friend:

Gun crime with previously banned assault weapons - 9.7% said increasing

Gun crime with high capacity magazines - 13.7% said increasing.

Gun Theft - 42.2% increasing.

Street purchasing of ILLEGAL guns - 31% increasing.

9.7% + 13.7% + 42.2%+ 31% = 96.6% increase in gun crime

get it

Lmao slamfire! That's brilliant! I feel like this should be made into a digital poster of some sort for spreading on Facebook.

It annoys me that politicians think it's OK to flat out lie to us. It annoys me even more that the vast majority of the general public are a bunch of mouth-breathing booger-eaters that accept it as true without doing a little fact checking of their own.

Navy Guns, I think that post is insulting to mouth-breathing booger-eaters to compare them to people who believe politicians.

The is a good find.. however......

The link you provided is for 2012 data... Obama mentioned 2010 data.

Great find!

We need to get that out there.

Yes we do. But let make sure we dont look as manipulative as Obama and cite "The most current data" when we do.

The side benefit is that it helps expose Obama as the data cherry picking manipulative self serviing politician that he is.

I want to know about the 70% of NRA members who support universal background checks. Has anyone seen this survey? I think the NRA ought to re-survey it's members and make the results public.

NRA members willingly register themselves for government permission to carry a firearm everyday...it doesn't surprise me at all if they support stronger background checks...they have this delusion that it would never impact them.

It's how the question is formed.

If I asked, "Do you support measures requiring parents to conduct a background check on their children before giving them a gun as a gift," you might see a different response.

But that's what "universal" background checks mean.

That is exactly the question that I posed to my wife. "So if I wanted to sell your dad a gun, he should have to do a background check?"

Mouth breathing booger eaters? Epic!

That's going in my sig line, by the way.

a digital poster of some sort for spreading on Facebook.
