This month's match is a buffalo hunt.
Find the target here.

Any rifle, any caliber, iron sights or scopes. Blackpowder rifles are fine too. Shoot from the bench, prone with a rest, or sitting with crossed sticks.

(Buffalo hunters generally "made a stand" and used rests.) Rested rifle distance is 50 yards.
Classes are rimfire, centerfire and blackpowder. Note which class you shot in when posting.

Any iron-sighted pistol or revolver at 50 feet, standing, two handed. Shoot just one pistol, all are in the same class.

Buffalo hunters also hunted from horseback with pistols. This stage is a rough simulation of that practice.

Two buffs per target and three shots per buffalo. Hits in the orange circle count 10. Hits outside the circle count five. Perfect score is 60.

Shoot all four classes, three rifle and one pistol if you got enough powder and ball.

"Rise up quickly men! The herd's just over that hill!"

Little Loudmouth and I shot some of the Buffalo Hunt stages today.
It was windy and that gave us some problems.
Scores will be posted after we shoot another stage or two.

Finally got to the range today.

Ruger Mark II Pistol
50 ft., two hands standing:
Score:30

Hopefully, I'll get back out before the end of the month to shoot the rifle.

I rushed to get the match done before dark today. I could have used a little practice as it's been a long time since I have fired these.

Rimfire rifle, Ruger 77-22, score:30

Pistol, Ruger Mk II, score:15

I have been given the envelope: The winners are,

Pistol
Robert J. McElwain, 30
Ruger Mark II

Rimfire Rifle
Barbarian, 60 (A perfect score.)
Anschutz

Centerfire Rifle
Little Loudmouth, 10

Now it's time to load some ammo for my .250 Savage and go deer hunting.
The only shooting I'll be doing for a while is sighting-in and shooting deer.

Aw snap, I didn't even see the thread till it was too late. Is the November contest coming up anytime soon?

Dead

Well, I guess the monthly virtual matches are finally dead. I was hoping to see some people post in dismay since there was no November match. There wasn't any. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.

I've been watching these for a while, but haven't been able to shoot. Now that I've found a range, I'll join in, if they continue.

Like everyone else, I've kinda just been sitting around waiting for an announcement for November. I've looked at these as fun matches and I love 'em. Hopefully, our wonderful leaders won't abandon us, and will come up with something great for December, since we've given them a month's vacation. :)

IE, there is still interest out here, and your efforts are appreciated.

Bob

My offer...last chance.

RobertJ,
Well, there are no "wonderful leaders" per se. These matches were originally the brainchild of Readyontheright who ran them for a year or so but got too busy and burned out to continue. I, and several other members, have been trying to keep it going on an adhoc basis this year. Unfortunetly, there has been a significant loss in particapation and enthusiasm and it has been difficult to justify the effort to continue.
I have performed CPR on the matches several times this year in the hope of reviving things. I'm not sure it is worth it again. However, being a glutton for punishment, I will offer the following:

I will generate and post a match for December. But, if we do not have at least 12 entries for that month then that is it. I'll run the match and summarize the scores but the members of THR must do their part. You must get out and shoot the match, report your scores, etc. I have noted that it is very important for there to be a constant flow of posts relating to the match to keep it in everyones mind as the month progresses. (Advertising ya know!). I can only do so much. It takes everyone to help.

There it is. Any takers?

<There it is. Any takers?>

Whatever, the match, I'll be posting a score. In fact, if it'll help, I'll post two or three scores. I'm always looking for an excuse to go to the range. :D

Thanks, Photo Guy, for hanging in there.

Bob

NOV/DEC Match!

OK, I decided to give another match a go. I am counting on all of you who have continued to particapate to spread the word (as well as shooting the match).

Let's see how it goes.
