For whIle, after struggling with all of the cap jams on every open top I bought I was losing hope. I dove in and installed the cap rakes on those and solved that problem.Man o man was I happy.

But during those bad times, I kept looking at the Pietta 1858 36 with the 6 1/2 inch barrel. I kept thinking, those are ugly and besides I have my Colt replicas working great. But then after awhile those 1858s started looking better and better, kinda like when it was kinda almost closing time. It didn't look so bad after all.

So alittle over a week ago I ordered one from DGW. OMG, this was the first BP that shot perfect right out of the box (after cleaning it ) I didn't have to order aftermarket nipples, no modifying, no filing the sights, no buyers remorse for picking up the ugly one.

Thirty rounds first time out, not a single jam, no malfunction and hit the steel everytime.

I am impressed.

Could you sometime provide an estimate of the full powder capacity for a .36 Pietta Remington chamber with a round ball loaded?

I've been curious to learn how much difference there is compared to the Colt .36's due to the full size Pietta Remington frame & cylinder length.

It sounds to be a really great .36, and eventually I would like to buy one too.

IMG_4124.JPG rems x three all of them Capture.PNG I like Pietta Remington’s too - a lot. The middle one is the .36 with the 6.5” barrel and it’s a real shooter. Got it in 2011 [CH]. It’s not particular and likes either .375 or .380 and does real well with conicals too. The frames on each are identical. Of the three, the .36 is the heaviest. Upon detonation it has its own unique sound; a deeper sounding boom. I don’t know why. Have any other owners noticed that?

I got an extra cylinder for it from Cabellas at forty bucks and later they briefly had them for $15.88 (!) and I was able to get the last one. That was the best deal ever. Cabellas quit carrying that model then so I guess they were just eliminating related inventory.

I generally use 25 grains but it will hold 30 grains and a round ball without undue compression. Good gun.

I am happy with these two.

I got one of the Pietta 1858 Remington .36 caliber from Cabela's when they were clearing them out a couple years ago. Sale price was $169 plus free shipping. Probably the best deal I ever got on a cap n' ball. Mine is super accurate but the trigger is not that great. With a rest it can put 6 shots into one hole smaller than a quarter at 15 yards but the creepy trigger makes it hard to shoot offhand one handed. Mine also seems to like .375 balls better than .380.

I must say I like that front sight on the Pocket model!

That little Pocket model shot really high. So I took a brass washer and ground it down to make a blade sight that is taller than the one that came on it. Now it is SPOT on.

Sounds like the same deal I got with my Remington NMN from Cabela's!

How did you attach it to the barrel?

The original blade is just pressed in to a small slot. I made the same slot a little wider and deeper and tapped it into place with some JB Weld. Then filed it down to where I wanted it. Shoot, file,,,shoot file, shoot file.

Really like the look of those two Remingtons together! Might have to get me one of those Pocket Models to go with my New Model Navy!

The .36 Remington target model with adjustable sights seems to be hard to find in the US.
Meanwhile some European dealers list the adjustable sight Pietta .36 Remington models in both stainless and blued versions.

I put another 30 rounds back to back through the 1858 this afternoon ,,, NOT a single malfunction..Dang I am liking this one !!!!
