Does anyone know if the adapter for .22 works on a .17 hmr so I don't have to pay so much to get it threaded?

Are you asking whether a .22 can would work for a .17 rifle? Sure would.

Or are you asking whether threads on something will match something else?

Can you explain better?

There is an adapter for the .22 that allows you to just tighten it on the end of your barrel then u just screw on the filter and u r ready to go. Was wondering if it worked the same on a .17. I'm curious because on the website that sells them it only says they only work with .22's.

Got a link to the website? Seems anything worth a $200 tax stamp and registration would be worth a better attachment system than that, but maybe I'm still not understanding.

Standard threads for .22 are 1/2"-28. What are the threads on your .17?

Oil filter suppressor is a waste of money. Since you have to pony up the cost of a $200 tax stamp and wait almost a year for the paperwork to clear, wouldn't you rather have a useful silencer when the wait is finally over?

You need to ask the manufacturer of the muzzle coupling rather than post here. We have no idea what muzzle coupling you are talking about or the dimensions of your barrel. Kinda hard to answer your question without that info... Also, muzzle couplings are a PITA to get lined up properly and will probably be a bigger headache than you want to deal with.

Now if you are going to go through the trouble and go the NFA route, don't do it on the cheap. Get your barrel threaded 1/2X28 and buy a suppressor rated for the .17 HMR. Even if you decide to go with the Oil Filter suppressor, it will cost ~$300. What is the big deal about getting the barrel threaded properly?

Not only do you have to register the adapter as a silencer, but you're not even allowed to change out the oil filters yourself; not unless you want to commit a federal felony.

The BATFE regulates what it considers "silencer parts"; when you attach an oil filter to an adapter the filter becomes a silencer part. And just as it's illegal for the user to change out the baffles on a normal suppressor, if you change out the oil filter on an oil filter suppressor you're breaking federal law and you're eligible for 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. The only way you can legally change the filter is to send the whole thing back to the manufacturer or another properly licensed company.
