I have never reloaded brass cases before (although I have loaded shotgun for years), and the opportunity has arisen to do so. I have inherited an old Lyman press. I also have access to some Dillon dies. I checked the dies, and the threads seem to match the press, and I can thread them in to an appropriate depth (so it touches the shell holder at top of stroke). As far as I can tell, the dies should work fine. Am I missing something?

I have some Lyman dies for a different caliber, and they have the same threads as the Dillon dies.

Any brand of Standard 7/8 x 14 thread die will fit in anyo ther 7/8 x 14 thread press. You can use Lee, Hornady, RCBS, Dillon, etc in standard presses like Lyman, Dillon, RCBS, Lee, etc presses. There are some presses like the Dillon Square deal B that uses a propritary die that you can't swap into anything else, but generally standard dies fit into any standard press.
