Oklahoma passes open carry - awaits Governor's signature

The Oklahoma legislature passed and sent to Governor Mary Fallin an open carry bill for signature. If she signs it, it will be effective November 1, 2012. Holders of a Concealed Handgun License will be able to pick which way they want to carry.

Yep, the good old OK legislature shafted us again. A few years ago the hypocritical legislature passed unrestricted open, no concealed carry permit required, carry knowing Brad Henry would veto it. The leadership of the OK legislature promised to pass the same bill again with a new governor, Mary Fallin. They lied to us like a bunch of stinking cur dogs.

This action by the OK legislature was milk sop to appease OKlahomans who want a referendum on open carry.

I'm still now sure what happened in 1971 and why we lost legal open carry then.

That said, this is a step back in the right direction.

The debate was live online this morning but I'm told that they do not record the debates. Would have been sweet to be able to download it.

Some of the arguments against it were downright ridiculous. One Senator asked who would be able to open carry if the bill becomes law. The author told her that anyone who currently has a permit will be able to open carry.
This Senator then askes if the KKK would be able to open carry at meetings.
Author replied that yes if they have a valid permit.
Then the Senator asks if the Black Panthers would be able to open carry at meetings.
Author replied that yes if they have a valid permit.
He then in an attempt to clarify for her would would be able to carry told the Senator that the Law did not prevent any particular group from being able to open carry. So long as they had the required permit.

This explanation did not seem to phase her at all or just didn't sink in. She immediately asked about the various militia groups in Oklahoma and whether or not they would be allowed to carry.

This Senator has a Masters degree in education I'm told but she could not understand the simple idea that everyone with a permit would be able to open carry.

For the life of me, I can't understand why we need legislation allowing what is already a Right.

I am quite sure she kept asking those questions about conflicting groups so she could stir debates to be against the bill. Even if it passed, I personally would not open carry because I would become the target of the bad guys who intend to do harm.

I suppose that's the reason that LEO's OC . So they can become BG targets.They're taking the hits for us!

Now, Johnny Dollar.... you know the bad guys are irresistibly attracted to the .1% of the general population that open carries and makes them targets, right? I mean, after all, it makes no sense whatsoever for the bad guy to let that .1% of the general population who they see has the means to kill them to just go on by and wait or walk down the street one block to pick one of the 99.9% of the remaining population to target that doesn't have the visible means to kill them.

We see stories in the news everyday where the guy openly carrying the handgun becomes the first target of the criminal.

I sure hope that they pass it. IT's annoying that they make it illegal to exercise a right.
