Older 10-22 wood vs new 10-22 wood

I have an older 10-22 circa 1986 before the mag release tang under the bottom. My 10-22 also has nice walnut furniture. I am wanting to buy a new 10-22 in stainless and then put new hardware into my older nice wood stock.

Does anyone know if this will work or if the 10-22 has changed such that I would run into problems?

Not sure about your situation, but I have a 1982 10/22 and I've used several stocks on it, some of them fairly recent.
The only thing I've noticed different about "late model" 10/22s is they don't accept the older higher capacity mags I have.

edit to add..
I added that release tang on mine and it hasn't changed the way it fits in the original stock.

Nothing changed that would cause problems.
