Olympic Shooting For Your Viewing Pleasure

ISSF has the Olympic shooting events, along with some other competitions.

There is a little eye candy involved:

Katerina Kurkova (20) from Czech Republic was today again at great condition at the final of the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women event at the ISSF World Cup Sydney. Just a few days ago did Kurkova, the current World Champion of Air Rifle Women of Lathi 2002 win the Bronze medal of the Air Rifle final and even topped it today by winning the Gold medal and first place of the 3 Positions Rifle event.
She was followed by Rongxue Chen (25) from China, World Cup Gold medallist of the World Cup in Changwon last year and Anjali Bhagwat (34) from India who won Bronze. Bhagwat had just missed her fourth place at the Air Rifle Women event a few days ago at the shoot-off.

You know...

I was looking at the medals for the shooting sports, and I was surpised by the relative lack of American names on the list. I figured that us Americans with our 'Unhealthy fixation on gun violence' would have our names all over the Shooting Medal results.

That being said, congratualtions to Mathew Emmons, who took the Gold in the 50m Free Rifle. And, to Kimberly Rhode who took gold in Women's Double Trap.

And...they are both young! 25 for Kimberly, 21 for Mathew! I mean, I thought Champion Shooters would be older. Maybe it's because every time I go to the range, there is ALWAYS some older guy shooting disgusting groups with some old mil-surp gun he's been shooting for 50 years!

That was just very surpising to me.

"...I thought Champion Shooters would be older..." Handgun shooters tend to be older. Mind you, most European countries pay their competitors rather large sums if they win. Amatuers they ain't.

Sadly, I think this is the result of a well thought out and executed plan by the antis as well as our gun phobic media. To be Olympic caliber (at anything) you must start young and practice, practice, practice. We (the US) just will not allow kids to be around guns that much - just aint cool.

I've also noticed that there isn't much coverage of the shooting sports in the media. ***? I guess what I said above covers that.

If we want to change this, we have to work with the kids!
