Online gun auctions. Alternatives to gunbroker, etc.

Hello,

I've had good luck with both gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com for both buying and selling firearms. (knock on wood!)

I check auctionarms.com on a regular basis for guns of interest and also when I'm trying to get an idea as to what a reasonable price might be but have not had an opportunity to do a transaction using that website.

Are there alternatives to those three websites?

I did a little searching ( i.e. googled for "gun auctions") and checked out a couple of the hits but it wasn't obvious that they were ready for prime time yet, i.e. agun.com has a handful of guns listed in their "modern" section.

So my question is: Are there any viable online auction websites for firearms other than the big 3? (gunbroker, gunsamerica, auctionarms)

I guess another way of putting it is: "Is my big 3 the same as your big 3 when it comes to online gun auction websites?"

Thanks,
ddc.

I haven't found anything compareable to the three. While its fun to shop them all, its tough to find a deal that I couldn't get locally after all the shipping and FFL charges and whatnot. I am going to tally up te best price I can find on a particular pistol, then walk into my local store and offer that amount. And the gun that I'm thinking of now would mean the store would have to knock off about $30. Cash in hand might be a winner for that, who knows.

If you find anything good, let us know. Oh yeah, Check out StuhrmRuger.com, and I'm positive I misspelled that. But that board moves pretty quick and has some pretty good listings.

I am sure there are good deals on the three auction boards that was mentioned in a previous post. But good luck in finding them. Used glocks going for $500.00 plus. Ruger 10/22 for $225.00. S&W model 15 for $425.00. Except for the model 15 you can buy new for less. But it is fun to browse the boards.

i havnt found anything comparable to the big 3. the few others i have found only have a handful of odds & ends guns, for the curio collector they might be worth looking at though. in most cases the guns on the big three are priced higher than the local shop. also i wonder do these people look at there own ads? it strikes me as odd that you see, say a ruger GP100 at $350 and right below it you will see two more at $450 or $500. it seems an awfull waste of everyones time. also i think "get a clue" when there are 50 rifles up for auction and all 50 have 0 bids.when i was younger and working for other people i guess its this type of buisness practice that drove me to be self employed. :D

I find a few gunshop's websites once in while but never with anything that I couldn't get locally for the same or better prices. The auctions I check prices on are gunbroker and gunsamerica. I actually found a ruger mkII I really liked while surfing one of these two sites and would never have found it otherwise or knew it existed (KMK512GC). Called a local shop and they had it, cheaper of course.

Deals

Got a nice deal some time ago through Auction Arms--I wanted a gun that no one else seemed to want--Got it for the opening bid--That's the dream of every auction bidder is it not?

Best online deal so far was a THR poster who mentioned just in passing that he was sick of a particular gun and wanted to get rid of it, I PM'd him, asked him how much, we struck a deal, and the gun should be delivered to my FFL guy this week. And the seller will be able to afford more ammo for a gun he likes better. No auctioneer's cut for the seller to pay, no extra profit for the buyer to pay, just 2 guys working out a mutually beneficial deal.

Wed. 3/2/05 Picked up gun @ my FFL this am on the way to work. It was exactly as described; feel I was very well treated in this transaction. But then it was with a fellow THR poster so that was expectable. :)

Those are the only 3 that I know of. I prefer www.gunsamerica.com becuase it isn't an auction sight.

The best deals I have got online have been the THR firearms listings and the listings over on www.xdtalk.com It is really hard to beat buying a gun from another member.

I haven't purchased a gun from an auction site or online even yet (well, except for Aim Surplus and CDNN) but I have sold put two guns up for sale both here and at Glock Talk and the Firing Line. The first sold real quickly - it was a good deal for the buyer and also satisfied my desires as seller. No middle man invovled, we did a face to face at a local range. THe second almost sold as easily, but while at the same range to do the deal a guy killed himself and I ended up selling the gun two weeks later at a gun show.

I am finding that they can be equally frustrating for sellers. Even with good prices folks are afraid to bid early. So it sits in count down mode until the last day or so. I'd just as soon give my customer a good price and be done with it. Relisting an item ad nauseum seems to be pointless to me from a business point of view.

I've bought several guns from online auctions. I haven't had any bad luck buying. Real nice guns at great prices. Just make sure you check the sellers feedback.

Thanks for the feedback.

Consenus appears to be that there is a "big 3" (i.e. gunbroker, auctionarms, gunsamerica).

I agree with those who have posted that the "for sale" forums on thehighroad.com are as good a place to look as any. I've also had good luck with ar15.com and fnhipower.com.

Good shooting,
don.

Its getting harder and harder to get a good deal on the auctions, I have bought a few guns on them in the past, but after you add shipping and insurance, and the FFL fee, its not a real bargain anymore, I prefer to go to gun shows, and try, but even thats a challenge .

My personal jury is still out where online gun-buying is concerned. I've made a couple of good deals, but been hustled on a couple, too.

Most recently was a seller on gunsamerica.com who described a gun as "excellent" and then sent me one different from the photos. Needless to say, it wasn't "excellent" but was borderline okay and returning it would've been more of a hassle than it was worth--something I'm convinced the seller took into consideration. (The FFL who transacted the deal for me said, "Kind of a nasty little pistol, isn't it?" Yeah, it is, thanks for asking.)

On the other hand, I've received a couple of pretty nice items, too.

By far, though, the deals I've done through THR have been superior--nice people all around.

Right now, I've got a few old items to sell, and it looks like I'll be doing it through THR rather than any of the other sites. (Luckily, I live in an area where there's plenty of buyers and sellers.)
