Hosted a very nice young man trekking from west coast to east coast on American Discovery Trail, by horseback, with pack mule. A question of legal issue came up as he is carrying a .45 LC revolver and .30.30 carbine, he wondered if ok to open carry or should he trade rev for horseshoes as he makes his way along the Arkansas River through Kansas?
I am also posting with inquiry for anyone who may wish to host this modern day adventurer and fourlegged pals along the way. I guided him through city of Pueblo to Larry and Sandy Ashcraft's farm. There, steaks and hay were the best part of a very wet ride of 20+ miles. Post to Larry or I if you may be interested in being a contact. More info on Matt and his ride located at www.rideofpassage.com. (makes an interesting read)

It's the usual deal: Check out packing.org or some such, since state laws vary so greatly.

Odds are, he oughta put the revolver away, on his pack mule...

Which brings up a question. Federal laws pretty much exempt stuff made before 1898. Do state laws speak to open carry or suchlike, if the revolver is a cap and ball type, an original made before cartridge revolvers?
