I just put together a 300 Blackout AR for my 14 year old son to hunt with. He wanted a light weight light recoil rifle with range to 300 yards. This seemed like a good option. His shots will likely range from 50-200 yards. I want to spend under $250. I did pick up a Nikon .223 1x4 at Dunhams with my 30% off coupon for $190 but it has the dead on reticle which he does not like at all. The reticle is too fat! So I'll be taking that back. It has nice glass though.
He also thinks the 1x4 is not powerfully enough. I beg to differ but it's his rifle. The range on the Blackout is not great beyond 300 so I understand so what would be a good power...3x9, 3.5 x10? Is 4x12 too much limiting short range target acquisition?
Thoughts please?
