Optics for mini 14

I've tried several types of optics on my Mini, red dots and shotgun scopes. Right now I'm using this Leapers 3-9 X 32. It has multi color reticle and a lot of features for a scope in its price range (about $75). I think they call it a "BugBuster" I have it absolute zeroed at 100 yards and it has held that zero for years of fairly active use as a "critter getter". It is however a bit stingy on eye relief. Its fairly light in weight and fits the Mini just fine.

If using it for varmints past 100, a scope. 2-7X or compact 3-9X.

Since yours is a folder I'd continue to take advantage of the compact size and go w a 2 moa reddot on scout rail.............Aimpoint PRO type or maybe a micro.

Had a PRO clone on my AR, found it too big.
Liked it on my Contender handgun though.

Millet "Buck" 1.5-5x32 (IIRC) Cheap, has held up, it isn't a target gun, it's a play toy.

Get "both"- something in the 1-4 or 1-6 power range. Make sure you can get rings that are compatible with your mini and the scope diameter- you didn't specify which model mini you have.

My favorite would be this (the BTR-1 version, which has an illuminated first-focal-plane reticle):

I have one, and wish I had discovered it years ago. Use it like a red dot on 1x, but throw the lever to 4x and you have a nice clear magnified view, with a BDC reticle to boot. And if the battery fails, the reticle is etched on the glass so the scope is still usable.

Leupold and others make illuminated low-power variables that are even better in terms of glass quality and features (like motion activation), but they can get very spendy very fast. That Bushnell is right at $200, which IMO is a very good value.

I use a Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4x20 in a unitary Leupold Base/Ring mounted on a Picatinny rail. The scope has a red illuminated ring that can be turned on/off. Excellent choice for all my uses since the Mini-14 is not a real long range rifle.

Some of the new reddots have something like 50K hr battery life.
There may be motion activation on top of that.
Crazy.
