From a flyer sent by gunsmith Ron Scott, a featured artist in Mark Silver & Wallace Gusler's book, Three Centuries of Tradition.

This year's fair will again use the English Fowler project to continue demonstrating techniques in building an 18th Century Flintlock. In 2006 we covered the parts selection, design layout, lock modification and breech fitting. This year we plan to demonstrate lock inletting, butt plate inletting, custom side plate fabrication and ramrod pipes.

Dave Rase will continue discussions of period stock finishes. An appropriate finish will be identified for the fowler project. Mike Keller plans to continue his work on the fowler lock and perhaps the barrel keys. Patterns for carving and engraving will be examined. Remember, we are selling raffle tickets for the 2008 drawing of this fowler.

Steve Vance will be presenting a seminar on advanced powder horn decoration. Steve is one of the better horn makers in the country, showing at the CLA and regional rendezvous. Scrimshaw, starting and engrailing will be explained and demonstrated. We are trying this year a pre-fair, hands-on workshop. This will take place Friday. The goal will be for each participant to produce a French & Indian horn. All materials will be furnished. We would need advance registration and information. Call Ron.

As in previous years, we will have coffee and donuts Saturday and Sunday morning. Lunch and dinner will bef urnished on Saturday. A raffle and auction will occur Saturday evening after dinner. Ron Scott is creating a powder horn for auction. If anyone has any item they would like to contribute, please bring it. Plenty of display space is available for particpants' works and original study peices to place for viewing.

I had an article published a couple of years ago in Muzzle Blasts about the Gunmakers' Fair and will be attending this year. Contact Ron Scott at 541-858-2800 or [email protected] for more details.
