Simple message: NO ON SB 941!

It's now or never folks. You know if they pass this, they won't stop here.

Let's light them up.

Thank you for the list of email addresses blarby. I had already contact my representative but I assume these are the swing votes. I just emailed them all.

Remember to take the time this weekend to send an email and make a phone call to your legislators stating that you oppose this legislation and that you expect your legislator to vote against passing the legislation. Not only is the legislation flawed, but it is even more restrictive than California UBC laws. Worse, since the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice has stated that the effectiveness of “universal background checks” depends on requiring gun registration this bill is unenforceable because the only way the government could fully enforce such a requirement would be to mandate the registration of all firearms in private possession for tracking purposes. UBCs and firearm registration schemes provide no statistically important reduction in violent crime since DOJ has determined that criminals do not acquire firearms through regulatable means.

De Facto Registration

Background check is de-facto registration. No provision for loaning my buddy a shotgun for a weekend of duck hunting. This is right in there with trying to regulate recreational marijuana -- which Oregon did without any effect whatever on the underground traffic.

Criminals are not going to obey this legislation. It's stupid.

I agree, HSO.

De-Facto is irrelevant, 941 is REAl registration. Started bout an hour and change ago.

Makes me a little less sad about that tragic boat/Gun cleaning incident this morning.

Oh well, I guess Neptune needed a nice gun collection.

And when this doesn't lower crime rates one iota Bloomberg and his lapdogs will start crying for the next "common sense" gun law.

Which will be closing the loop hole , of course, that it isn't effective, this law, because all guns aren't registered; so it can't be enforced.

What a waste of time and effort and a distraction from the root causes of violent crime.

Exactly. Zero impact on crime, but another layer of hassle, expensive, and redtape BS for law-abiding gun-owners. In other words, par for the course for the anti-RKBA left.

SB 941 has passed the Oregon House. That was the last stop before it goes to the Governor who will sign it.

Today's debate was very long. The House Republicans gave it all they had. We are indebted to them, but, in spite of mountains of evidence that this bill will do nothing but hurt the law abiding, the House Democrats just continued to parrot the same tired lies they have been telling since the bill was introduced. Oregon will soon have one of the worst background check requirements in the country.

The carrier of the bill willfully mislead the chamber about what the bill did, but it really didn't matter. The minds were made up.

Three Democrats joined all the Republicans voting no. They were Jeff Barker, Brad Witt and Caddy McKeown. We appreciate their support.

Two Democrats we thought we could count on folded. They were Debbie Boone and Brian Clem.

We think at this point we will see more legislation related to this issue before the session is over, but that could turn out to be another false promise, or it could make things worse, but no matter what, we will keep you informed.

We want to say to each and every one of you who worked tirelessly and against the odds, that we are truly and deeply thankful. Your efforts were heroic in the face of a very deceitful majority. We also want to say the battle does not end. As you know, many counties and sheriffs are on record opposing this and we believe there are still opportunities to throw up roadblocks. We will be exploring all of them.

Now that the bill is passed, the clock is no longer ticking and we can take our time in planning responses.

But one thing won't wait. As you know there are recalls underway for three of the supporters of this bill. There may be more in the future. Please do all you can to support these efforts.

Since this has passed and will be signed by the Governor of Oregon the next phase is mitigate the flaws and get legislation passed to remove this law as well as remove the people behind the legislation.

A new thread will be needed for that so this one will close now and someone should open a new thread on what to do now.
