Howdy fellas,

Anybody know of a good outdoor range in or near the Phoenix area?

I'm new to the area and am looking to do some plinking and/or maybe shoot a few clays.

Thanks.

PS. If anyone knows of any good trails/hikes I would be in your debt to hear of them. I moved down here from Michigan, and I very much need to get out in some kind of woods.

Thanks again.

Well let me be the first to say welcome to Arizona. I also am a transplant from the U.P. of Michigan(Garden, south central area), been here since Feb. 1997. Not sure what part of the valley you are in but you have a couple of choices, in the north part of Phoenix you have Ben Avery Shooting Facility http://www.basfaz.com/, in south phoenix you have Phoenix Rod & Gun Club http://www.phoenixrodandgun.org/. Hope this helps you.

P.S. If you want trees like back home you will have to go to Flagstaff, not just like home but as close as you will get out here.

P.S.S What part of Phoenix are you in?

The nearest outdoor ranges to your Tempe location are going to be Phoenix Rod & Gun Club at South Moutain, or the Rio Salado Sportsman's Club up in Usery Pass, north of east Mesa.

As far as "woods", you are going to have to go up in elevation to get anything that resembles the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The nearest areas are going to be up the Brashshaw Mts near Prescott, or up near Payson and the Mogollon Rim.

Welcome to AZ, by the way.

Thanks for all the info guys. Maybe I'll see some of you out there.

As to the trees and whatnot. I don't know if I'll make it in this desert, but what the hell, it was worth a try.

I never thought I'd miss a quiet snowfall on an abandoned logging road as much as I do.

Thanks again :D

If you want some back country roads, logging trails, power line roads, give me a PM. I live in the mountains.

Try the Superstitions at Peralta Pass, Weavers Needle is awesome(and you might find the Lost Dutchmans gold mine) For shooting Ben Avery at I-17 and Carefree Highway is the best; 5 bucks to shoot all day, nice people, just get there early there are 65 shooting stations and they fill up quick on the weekends. Welcome to Phoenix! I was born here in 1952 and never in my mind did i think any one would WANT to move here( how do you like our 85 degree LOW temperature in august?) My wife is from Bay City,Michigan we went to visit her mother in august when 85 was the high temp.
