Para-Ordnance 1911's - Red-headed step-child?

I have the SSP, bought new this year, and it's been perfect. No failures of any kind, very accurate, works fine with oem and aftermarket mags. Everything fits the way it should, works the way it should, and I think it was quite a deal. Everyone that's seen/held/shot it has been pleased.

Well, I owned four LDAs...I had trouble with one C6/45 that I bought used. Contacted Para; although I was not the original owner, they had no problem with that. Took it back, fixed it right.

I have sold three of the four, not due to their lack of performance but due to my ever-changing (definition of) search for perfection.

I have nothing but good to say about Para as a company.

PS...A Tac-Four sleeps close to me at night. I sleep well. :)

I have an LDA CCO and have had 2 problems with it, well, one really as the other wasn't the gun, it was the mag (weak spring).
The problem was with Remington Ammo (230grn from Wally World), just didn't want to feed it (ok also not necessarily a problem with the gun), but every other brand/weight I've put thru it has fed fine (including some reloads).
It's accurate, fit's my hand well and conceals eaisly.

I'm going to have to disagree with you to the C&L carry being a "non-problem", while there isn't a safety issue (though it may seem scary to some), the problem is departmental.
Most P.D.'s won't allow C&L carry, so this is something that will allow an officer to carry a 1911, with a constant trigger pull that is dang close to that of a SA pull.

ok, let see.....

My first Para was a P14 LDA. Ran perfectly for 2500 +/- rounds. Sold it just because I really wasn't fond of the DAO trigger.

Bought a P14 Limited in Stainless, used it every year at a week long gun school
2000 rnds per week. Also shot it through out the year. Liked it so much I bought another just like it. Only problem with either was the plastic mag catch wore out on one. Replaced it on both with a metal version and never had another problem.

Bought a P16,40 No problems.
Bought a P13.45 Had to adjust the sights
Bought a LTC, liked it so much I bought a SSP to go with it.

I like my Paras. I have Colts, Kimbers and SPringfields also......oddly the Springfield gave me the most trouble. It has proven reliable after a good amount of work, but I still cant trust it after the initial trouble period.
Colts and Kimbers have performed flawlessly also.

So based on my experience we can deduce that Para's are as good as Kimbers or Colts and Springfields are junk. :neener:

As with any firearm, don't let one bad example turn you off an entire line.
I wouldn't have a problem buying another Springfield even though mine was way less than perfect.

Para's are good guns, decently priced.

Smoke.

edited to add:

Mine went back to factory and still wasn't 100 relieable and would rust if you looked at it wrong Was a P-10 pre warthog. But soured me enough I sold and no more. I stay with Colts .

Basing any maker solely on the performance of a 3" 1911 design is not a good idea. Many sub 4" guns have issues....this ugly fact crosses all makers.

Have a Para version of the Commander only problem 7 shot mag wouldn't drop free. Returned to para new mag alls well now

I have to disagree with your conclusion. The trigger in my LDA 645 (Carry model) is a delight. Glock triggers IMO are substantially inferior to the LDA. Not to say the Glocks are bad--they are highly reliable workhorses.

The LDA may offend the 1911 purists, but that doesn't bother me. I never liked the taste of Kool-Aid :)
