I'm in the market for a second FAL carbine to supplement the franken-beast that's served me well for six years now. With the current political climate, I feel it's best to buy soon.

(Actually paying for it while also paying my rent, etc. is another matter altogether, but we needn't get into the details of my sad life. :D )

I spent a lot of time at DSA's booth at SHOT Show last month. I was literally drooling over some of their sweet, sweet new rifles. New features include the roundy-type Israeli style magazine release, which I greatly prefer to the tiny angled Belgian type, and sand cuts on the bolt carriers.

Anyway, I was looking at the Paratrooper rifles. I like they way they look, I like the way they feel, and I like the way they balance. I like how you can shorten the stock also (about 13.5" LOP would be my preferance).

However, I ran across a problem. I'm left handed. Given the location of the FAL/Para's sling swivel (on the left side of the rear sight area), I can't figure out how I'd mount a carry sling that I could use left-handed. I use a Specter three-point SOP Sling for my FAL now, and it's a really good sling, but it won't work on a folder.

Thoughts? Should I just forget the folder and go with a fixed stock? Honestly I might do that anyway; a folding stock isn't really a huge priority for me, and it would add a couple hundred dollars in cost.

I just took a look at my DSA SA58 Para.

You're right, there really doesn't look to be an easy way to do it due to the hinge position.

In a pinch you could run a piece or para cord through the hinge pin at the top and attached a sling using it. The stock pushes down to unlock, so there's about a 1/4" gap at the top on the pin that isn't used in manipulation.

Folders are a personal thing. For what it's work the FAL folding stock is about the only folding stock I've tried that I like.
