And the monkey keeps throwing the feces.

HR 410 has been proposed.
Under this law, states are encouraged to set up a program for the temporary seizure of guns from an individual at the request of their family or friends.

The subject of these orders would be given an opportunity to request a hearing within 14 days to attempt to get their firearms back.

In the meantime, state and federal background check databases would be updated to prevent the subject from purchasing new guns.

My "friends" at the ATF requested you to take my guns away officer? Those rascals.

I don't know if this is just in a House committee right now or if we should start writing our House representatives to OPPOSE HR 410.

That's why we sticky the PopVox site right up at the top of the forum.

This resolution was assigned to a congressional committee on Jan 20, 2015, which will consider it before possibly sending it on to the House or Senate as a whole. The majority of bills never make it past this point.

The thing to do is find out who is on the committee and then identify the pro 2a folks and lobby them against the thing. Considering the only people on board are a couple of lonely CA Representatives this is likely to die in committee, but it never hurts to drive a stake in the thing before it mutates.

Thanks Ryanxia,

You're usually one of the first to post about new legal and activism topics. I often don't hear about these things until I log on to THR and see that you've posted something. What websites or sources are you watching?

Keep up the vigilance...

:what:  :barf:

I use to just vote on the presidential election years, not any more. I vote and keep voting every year and use the NRA 'report card' as my guide.

"Safety" and Are you or do you feel "Safe" I knew as soon as I heard politicians start preaching this word it would come back to haunt us.

WI police chief...

Would that WI police chief that wanted private citizens to "consent" to home-property inspections be your buddy?

This sounds like another wack-a-doo bill that will quickly go nowhere.

Every few days I just do a news search for gun control just to see what the other side is up to. It used to make my blood boil reading most of the articles because they're usually supporting gun control, but once you get used to reading in between the lines it gets easier. :D

Thanks HSO, I keep forgetting that's there. I certainly don't want to bother opening threads on proposals that will die in committee, but these Bills get put through so fast I just don't want to let one slip through. :)

Ryanxia,

It is important for you and other members to post about every federal, state and local legislative attempt to harm or help the 2A. Knowing what the Antis are up to, even if they're just minor politicians with no hope of real success trying to show their side of the argument. Knowing who the supporters of the 2A are and the central control authoritarians are in and of itself is valuable!

Family and friends?
I understand the term family, but how would friend be defined by this bill?
Length of time known, number of times you two have grabbed a beer together?
A lot of people use the term friend loosely today and I'd be curious to see how they define that to see who your friends are that could jumble your life upside down.

It is great to point out the flaws with this thing so we can use those flaws against it, but what are we going to DO.

Whining and hand wringing are for the General forum. You're here to work.

Points against the bill -
Anyone with a grudge can abuse this to deny the rights of others by claiming to be a friend tipping off the authorities like "swatting" incidents. People will be unjustly denied their property and their rights due to abuses. They may be injured or killed by swat teams showing up and errors and overstepping taking place.

There's no statistical basis for 300 million people to have such a vague and intrusive piece of law imposed upon them in spite of the highly dramatic and overwrought coverage of the very rare mass shooting. Mass shootings are what they're trying to prevent, but they're so rare that even government studies have shown they don't move the needle on violence in this country. It is a problem on the personal level, but on the national level it is so rare as to be nothing more than fodder for hysterics.

It would add additional burden to the already overburdened law enforcement officers in the communities that have to actually do the policing. Congress isn't going to respond and ask people to surrender firearms for their or the families or the community's safety. They're creating an unfunded mandate that then has to be implemented at the community level by your and my police officers/sheriff deputies. Those folks have plenty to do and if they don't you and I shouldn't be paying for them to be involved in mischief like this.

So, what do we do now? Take these points, make them into letters and emails and phone calls to your congress critters. Put them in POPVOX or any other congress email aggregator and send them that way. Contact your city or county mayor and point out this bill is in committee and that it will hit their budget and their taxpayers if it passes, not Congresses.

I noticed a trend.... I searched "gun" and "firearms"

7 of 8 bills are "Anti" gun. 1 is Pro.

A matter of fact, Democrats wrote the 7, a republican wrote the 1.
