Came back from the range with my stainless Steel Ruger Redhawk all cruded up. Sprayed it down with PB Blaster and went to clean it about five minutes later. I never had an easier job of cleaning a stainless steel handgun before. All the black crap just wiped off. Everything but the face of the cylinder cleaned up so easy I was in shock. Nothing else I've used worked that well. Even did a good job on the bore.

I had good luck with pb blaster on pretty much everything ive used it on thats got carbon fouling. Couple notes is that it will be absorbed by wood pretty quick, and it suxs at preventing rust.

I've long used PB to free up small parts on fishing reels (I do a lot of work on gear used in saltwater...) and found it satisfactory. I'll have to give it a try for my weapons as well...

Nice to know. I normally use Kroil but the aerosol version is a bit pricy. Have a used Cub Cadet mower hydraulic pump to clean for installation and I'll try this.

I have a S&W three inch 686+ that is overdue for a thorough cleaning. Thanks for the tip on PB Blaster. I will pull the stocks and give it a try.

It smells nasty but I have no doubt it would work. I would wear nitrile gloves while using it. Use in a well ventilated area, too.

Yesterday, working on a fishing reel with heavy corrosion, I had a problem screw that wouldn't budge - even after several shots of PB... I let it sit for a few moments then applied a hot wrench (propane torch, set at medium low) until the area began to smoke, then hit it one more time with PB. Easy peasy, removed the screw without the slightest damage.... I've never had to do that with a firearm but I'd bet, if the area will allow it, a frozen screw or bolt will give up (if it's going to....) with that kind of treatment. Of course I still break off my share of screws by being impatient and not using that hot wrench when I know I should...

I am also a big fan of PB Blaster for various jobs around the gun room. Using it with 0000 steel wool will remove the rust from about anything with ease without harming the blueing that is left. Also good for cleaning up carbon residue as mentioned.
