I'd all but given up on my Diana 34, can't keep putting scopes on springers, can't shoot open sights for do do.
Was reading here about peep sights, ended up making a quickie to try out..... I'm sold. I'll have to get out in the shop and make some steel ones with a windage slot and elevation screw.
I did three groups of 5 and could see it would work. Then I hit six rats in 6 shots... never do that w/open sights. From a rest and 10 yards. IMG_7685.JPG IMG_7686.JPG IMG_7689.JPG IMG_0658.JPG IMG_0659.JPG IMG_0660.JPG

Hey that's great! I too want to make a peep sight. For my Remington Model 8. Peeps for those are getting hard to find and run around $300.

When you drill the sighting hole, drill it from the muzzle end of the sight with a taper (countersunk) so that there's no way to see the sides of the hole from the back.

The hole needs to be as perfectly round as you can possibly make it. Smaller is better for accuracy, larger is better for quickness and for poor lighting conditions.

If possible, make a shade for both sides of the sighting hole. Take a short length of tubing that is a bit larger diameter than the hole, cut two lengths that are about a quarter of an inch each (you can go longer on the muzzle end of the sight, if you want) and then glue the lengths on either side of the sighting hole so that it is shaded.

Actually, it's ok to go longer on the shade for the shooter end of the sight too, but for safety's sake, it's better to not have a long pokey thing lined up too close to your eye.

Try to keep the shades (especially the shade on the shooter end of the sight) centered on the hole.

Painting everything flat black (including the inside of the shades) when you're done should give the best results.

Another option is to thread the hole to take standard apertures like these:

Decided to go Peep on my AK47, real cheap. It has not been put on yet! Procrastinate is my middle name.

I just got an $18 peep of fleabay - got two apertures.
I'll need an adapter but it might work might need another rail if an adapter is to tall.
Being lazy by nature, I can afford this one.

That's also a neat sight even if it is store bought lol It looks like it has a ghost and a finer peep aperture, is that right?

10-4
has two, I think the small one will be too far from my eye to use
question .... does Walmart have new eye balls? Maybe I could use the new one;)

Nice :) . I like peep sights & I've been looking at a few Mojo sighting systems peep sights. I got real lucky & scored a Parker & Hale P.H 18B peep site on fleabay that I put on my Buckhorn 66 bolt action .22 .

For some unknown reason the cheap 3_9x40 CVlife airgun scope on my Grossman NpF4 from wally China fart lost zero. I just spent the last hour getting it sighted back in. I haven't tried fine-tuning it yet because I can't get a nice clear focus on it to see the impacts on the target thru the scope, but I got it shooting groups that you can cover with a quarter. If I have any more issues with this scope I'll either replace it with something like a Weaver fixed 4X or I'll put a peep on it :) ...

3D printing is your friend for these type of mods. This weekend I've designed and printed some elements for the globe foresight for a Carl Gustav 6.5x55 target rifle - These elements are almost unobtainable due to the unique indexing system. I also recently made some 3d printed shooting spectacles with lens and iris for shooting my Morini 162ei match air pistol and Winchester .357 underlever with open sights.

How cool is that!

I see what you mean about those globe inserts- never saw any that had that same bottom alignment 'tab'.

I have just a cheap Chinese kit printer and don't know what I would do without it. Just this evening I've designed and now printing a palm shelf for a cheap Czech air pistol (Lov 21) to make it a bit more target friendly.

Got a new project, the Diana 34 is on hold, worked great for 10 shots, then on of the screws popped out into the either.
Glued a fender washer on my CO2 carbine, needed a longer elevation screw but it's the ticket for shooting down the hallway. IMG_0735.JPG
