People make fun of my online gaming, but...

I thought this was interesting. I was playing Deus Ex and found a book on the rules of firearm safety.

Edit: The picture doesn't seem to zoom in to the full resolution. It says:

1. Never point a firearm at anyone or anything you do not intend to shoot.
2. Before handling any firearm, understand its operation.
3. Always have your firearm pointed in a safe direction.
4. Keep your firearm unloaded when not in use.
5. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
6. Never pass your firearm to another person until the cylinder or action is open and you visually check that it is unloaded.
7. Place your finger inside the trigger guard only when you are ready to fire.

Video games are the future of combat. It's been proven that heavy video game players have better night vision than most non players due to low light scenarios. I've been sing praise for gaming for a while. I knew a nerdy little kid in boys scouts who grew up to be a deadly drone operator in the middle east theater. Numerous SHOOTER games give access to many real world guns, complete with simulated recoil, real world capacities and even windage and minute of angle. First person shooters simulate real iron sight profiles and kids under ten are learning trigger control and leading targets. I am a heavy gamer and advocate shooters to anyone who's into guns. Batteries are a lot cheaper than ammo!

That's a great post, but you're going to have a hard time getting that accepted here. I agree wholeheartedly that certain FPS games are a good start for shooters, and all the young people I know of who are future gun owners are FPS players. Shooter players seem to pick up the skills a good bit faster and have a good bit of a head start when it comes to basic fundamentals and tactics.

FPS video games like the Modern Warfare series is a gateway to real guns. The STALKER games also do a good job at this. However, it is slightly infuriating when an 8 year old on his 6'th Black Ops prestige comes into a Nutnfancy AR vs AK vid and begins chattering as if he knows everything because he's playing the game for a few hundred hours.

I know a few people who got into guns through internet gaming. It can be a "gateway drug."

Of course, there's also the gamers who THINK they know a lot about firearms based on gaming, but really know very little after all.
