The Bersa is a very decent pistol. Good trigger. I like mine a lot.

However, I think the CZ 83 in .380 ACP has a lot to offer for the mission you described. It's like a serious service pistol (in Europe, it has been issued as a service pistol), with everything, including the cartridge, shrunk down 10-15%.

Nice sized gun (compact but not too small to hold on to); made of steel; not too heavy, but definitely heavy enough to damp recoil, unlike some of ther other guns listed. Very positive manual safety, which facilitates cocked-and-locked carry - much like the 1911 she liked shooting.

Note that the CZ-83 is not a single stack. On the other hand, it's 12+1! Buy good ammo. Thirteen rounds of .380 in a shootable package is nothing to sneeze at.

If she does like the CZ and y'all end up buying one, order two or three spare full-capacity magazines from CZ (www.cz-usa.com) at the same time. You never know.
