So I was shooting my kel-tec pf9 at the range monday. I recently polished the chamber and feed ramp a bit because I was having failures to extract. (I know the feed ramp doesn't have anything to do with that, but I was polishing the chamber, so why not?). I fed a couple of mags through it with no failures, and then all of a sudden, I get what I thought was a misfire. The hammer fell but nothing happened. I ejected the mag and tried to rack the slide and couldn't. I took it home and fiddled with it a while when I finally got the chamber to drop down enough to get the slide back. I locked it back and took it apart. The barrel broke right where the takedown pin fits through it at the bottom. Where it was broken, it is kind of smeared and rubbed looking, which means it functioned for a while even though it was broken... rubbing the broken parts together to deform the broken surfaces.

This gun has about 350 rounds through it. Many different rounds, no plus p stuff though. I did run some of my reloads through it. These loads have performed well in everything else, and I am thorough, using a single stage press and I visually verify powder levels in each and every case. I used 125 grain cast bullets and 6 grains of HS-6 for 1130 fps over the chrono. There is a pic of my gun and ammo in this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=672745

I don't have pics of the failed barrel yet. The gun is only about a month old. Kel tec says send them the barrel and slide for warranty. Anyone else have this happen, or have an idea of what caused this?

Guess you allready called KT right?? They may send you a new barrel but guess you can salso end it in too if your worried. Tell them you want a shipping label.

The take-down pin should be checked also. You mentioned the barrel broke at that juncture, so it is worth checking it as well.

I sent them the top part of the gun and the takedown pin. They replaced the barrel and polished the ramp and chamber and sent it back. I took it to the range today and shot 60 rounds through it without flaw. I think it even shoots more accurate now than it did before. I put most all the shots into about 2 1/2" at 10 yards firing fairly quickly, but not rapid fire. If it will keep this up, I will be quite happy with the little gun. It's the only service caliber gun I can wear while I do pretty much everything, even riding my motorcycle with a tight muscle shirt with it tucked in the waistband and not printing. I can wear it mowing the grass, working in the garden, doing service calls at work, fishing, doesn't matter and it stays concealed and doesn't bother me.
