Picked up a nice S&W Model 17-3 6" .22LR today

Found this one at a local pawn shop today, in very nice condition. I been looking for a good used S&W 617 6" ten-shooter for awhile, but when I came across this today, I couldn't resist. My Smith .22 revolver niche has been filled.:D I got it for $450 out-the-door (the only negative is they didn't have the original box and manual for it:(). It has a great trigger, the finish is in very good shape and the wood grips are in perfect condition. I think I did pretty well. Here are a few pics of it:

As you did very well, my friend~! Thats one S&W that has always found
a way to elude me; in my quest for excellence. Maybe one day, one will
find its way into my stable of fine firearms~? ;)

As a footnote, I also would like to find a much harder too obtain Smith
& Wesson model's 18 and 43 in pristine condition.
 
Good job. I've got one just like it on layaway at my local addiction center. Well, "mine" has smooth wood grips (Jordan type?). No box or papers either, and a little more money than you paid for yours, but I'm happy with it. I'm looking forward to getting it about the time my birthday gets here. It's been a long time since I had a Smith & Wesson revolver.

I've got a Bearcat as a companion to my Single-Six. Now I "need" a 17 as a companion to my Dan Wesson 22. :D

Question. What's the difference in the "dash" models? I'm not sure which mine is. I was told in the "Smith & Wesson BOD thread that mine was made in 1971.
 
If they told you 1971, then it looks like you have a 17-3 like me. The next time you go to make a payment on it or pick it up, swing out the cylinder and look at the vertical frame section that is usually covered by the cylinder's swing arm (whatever it is called). You will find the serial number and the model number with its dash revision. The dash 3s were from 1967-1976, according to XavierBreath here on the board.
